OK, I've decided I need to sell a lot of my games as I'm struggling financially at the moment, what with a baby and my fiancee working part time. I recently picked up a large stash of N64 magazines, and they cover January 1998 through to December 2000. At present, I only have Super Mario 64 for my N64. So I have decided, why not pretend it is the late 90s, and work my way through each N64 game in chronological order. Now I know this is probably too big a task, so I'll likely stick to the good games, but there are also a lot of N64 games I missed out on such as Wave Race, Lylat Wars, Yoshi's Story etc.
I know retro gaming means playing old games, but I was wondering if anybody else has stuck to one console from yesteryear, reading the reviews chronologically and purchasing the games one by one. I suppose technically I am just retro gaming, but reliving my 12 year old self with the power to buy all the games I want.
Has anybody else chronologically started from a console's release and worked through it's game catalogue?

I've thought about doing that, but i worry i'd quickly lose interest.
Re: Immersing yourself into a console
I definitely lack the attention span to do that, but the blog chrontendo (NOT a site about pot and video games) is playing through every NES game in chronological order.

I have a long-term goal to beat every 32X game, but that's not really the same.

There's a guy playing through every CRPG in order of release date. http://crpgaddict.blogspot.com/ It's been pretty entertaining so far. He doesn't play through every game to completion; some games are just bad, but he's got a 6 hour rule to ensure he gives every game a fair shake.

I've been thinking of doing this, but with Nintendo Power instead (up until the N64). Of course, only problem is when do I have time?

I've been doing this. I have the full archive from retromags. I read it now and then. After about two months, I am just starting 1992.o.pwuaioc wrote:I've been thinking of doing this, but with Nintendo Power instead (up until the N64). Of course, only problem is when do I have time?

This seems like it could be a cool idea, it would be fun to dedicate 1 full month to just one console, as if that was the only system you had.
