congrats on your new snes!

it might take a while to get you collection started, but dont lose faith.

One thing you may have to do in the near future is to mod yor system to make it play japanese games. All you have to do is remove the two tabs inside. no mod chip necessary.

But if you can, get a second snes. that way you can use that one for jpn games.

Some games may be cheaper this way. they are still playable in any language.

Do you guys think I should clean the system pin set? I got F-Zero today and it's the second game that wouldn't boot at all until I cleaned the contacts thoroughly. Just bad luck or what?

It's pretty common to find games that are horribly dirty due to being in storage/not being used for years. I've gotten to the point where I won't even test a game until I've cleaned the contacts, just so I won't risk any build up of dust and dirt in my consoles. Just keep those suckers clean and everything should be fine.

There are plenty of SNES dust covers on eBay as well to keep the pins dust free.

Well the thing is I already cleaned F-Zero before putting it in. Although I guess I just didn't get all the dirt because a second swipe produced a bit more black stuff. Then it worked after that.

Minor problem, my controller seems to be glitching when it comes to F-Zero. The game doesn't always register when I press the trigger buttons (The right more than the left), so I can't do the special turn most of the time. Is this a controller or a system problem?

Only have one. I fixed it for the most part by cleaning the cart some more. Now it works consistently.

Only have one. I fixed it for the most part by cleaning the cart some more. Now it works consistently.

Just like the cartridges, sometimes the controllers might need cleaned out too. I bought a Genesis controller recently and the "C" button wasn't responding well. All you have to do is unscrew the bolts and clean the contacts with alcohol. If you fixed it by cleaning the cart some more then congrats, but if it keeps acting up you could always reference YouTube for better instructions.

EDIT: If you have another game that uses the shoulder buttons that could be another way to check.

So I'm pretty sure the cartridge slot on the console is dirty, becuase it won't play ANYTHING that hasn't been thoroughly cleaned (and I mean thoroughly, like 2 q-tip alcohol scrubs). I tried the shirt trick but that didn't work (no dirt on it). The "pull up slightly" thing isn't it either. Any ideas what to do>
