I'm in total agreement with the differences between the Android and iOS phones as I've had vast experience working with both device types. I was considering an upgrade to the iPhone 5 but I currently have the 4s so I'll wait till the inevitable 5s next year. I did update my phone to iOS 6 recently but I haven't checked out all the new features yet aside from the updated Facebook app.ZenErik wrote: Look, I've owned multiple iOS and Android phones, and both have their ups and downs.
Benefits to iOS include a smoother experience and less apps crashing. Apple is far better at optimizing their software for their hardware. I would also argue that iPhones are more intuitive than the average Android phone. Downsides include iOS being kind of boring. Android is more customizable, more fun, more open. Only with a jailbroken iPhone do you basically get the functionality of a stock unrooted Android device. The iPhone is also a better size for one handed use. At least for those of us with smaller hands.
Android seems to be rapidly gaining ground though. I've heard great things about Jelly Bean, but my Rezound doesn't support it.
Currently faced with the decision of whether to go with an iPhone 5, upcoming Android phone, or upcoming Windows 8 phone. Not sure yet. I was ready to go with the iPhone 5, but the new Apple made "Maps" app appears to be horrible. Absolutely horrible.

Wow, and I thought we were getting ripped off in Canada! At least we are able to choose our voice and data plans separately, mixing and matching to our needs.gtmtnbiker wrote:Which provider offers a $50/month plan? Personally, I don't care about the talk minutes. Only the data cost/limit.

This on our non Smartphone Mythic and Impression Samsungs. There is a limit per month on Data so I had all the phones blocked from online access to prevent accidental overuse from the kids. Screw the phone data plan, I have a laptop for browsing which is a lot easier to read and post.

Yep. I've been checking that blog daily. It's hilarious.Hobie-wan wrote:You don't say.ZenErik wrote:Currently using my iPhone 5. Good stuff. Except maps.
As an easy solution I just added a link to maps.google.com to my home screen and hid Apple's Maps map in some folder of stuff I never use. maps.google.com isn't on par with Android's maps app, but it is basically the same as iOS 5 maps. Good enough for now.

Re: iPhone 5
Virgin Mobile is $30 + tax/month for 300 minutes and unlimited text/data. It requires no contract so you will have to pay the upfront cost of an iPhone 4 or 4S. However, if you are adamant about iPhone, it is the lowest total cost of ownership among all carriers.gtmtnbiker wrote:Which provider offers a $50/month plan? The plan I mentioned is what I currently have and my wife has the plan above for $40, which offers 1200 minutes and unlimited data/text. I've been a Virgin mobile customer for about two years now. I recently bought my first iPhone (4s) after many years for my wife and me. In all those years, I've had several Blackberry phones, Android phones, a Windows Phone 7, and they all had their strengths/weaknesses. I have to say that the iPhone is just the best "all-in-one" or all-around device. I'm not a stranger to iOS as I own an iPad mini and had an iPad 1 and 2 before that so it just seemed logical to finally have an iPhone. It also makes sense for me since most apps are universal and I don't need to worry about buying apps for a different OS/Store such as Windows Phone or Android.
P.S. Sorry for bumping this up, but I figured I'd mention Virgin Mobile as a great option for low cost plans and decent phones. They also have nice affordable Android options.
