Anyone still enjoy any 32/64 bit sports games?

Post by mas »

I just picked up a massive load of psone/64/128 bit sports games. All are completed and I'm trying to get into them. Here is what I got for 6.00.
xbox:
madden 05,06,07
nba inside drive 2003
mlb 2004
fifa 06
major league baseball 2k5,2k6
nfl fever 2003
psone:
madden 99,2000,2001
nfl gameday 99
nhl 2000
nba live 2000
nfl blitz
triple play 2000
mlb 99
n64:
all star baseball 2000,2001
triple play 2000
nba live 2000
dreamcast:
nfl 2k1
world series 2k1,2k2,
Now I do love the nes/snes/genesis era of sports games but I never really got into the 32/64 bit era of sports games. I am playing these on my psone/lcd screen and it dont look that bad.
The dreamcast and xbox games I know I will still play but I really want to get into the psone/n64 era of sports games.
Can anyone tell me if the 2000 year of sports games are the cream of the crop for the era? Does anyone have any suggestions on what else I should play or get during the 32/64 bit era? Does anyone still play these games?
I know I'm asking too many questions but I'm really new into this era for sports titles and I didn't get into sports games after the 8/16 bit era until I saw nfl 2k1 on dreamcast.
Any info would help. Thanks

NHL 2002 is only rivaled by NHL 94.

Might be the best sports game ever. Grab NHL 2002, and if you don't like it, I'll send you the $0.99.

I'm playing ISS Pro Evolution as much as I can on the PlayStation. I still can't win on normal level.

I also play Madden 2000, which I find to be the overall best. Hot shots golf is also fine.

Nice haul, especially with them complete. I have my original psx hooked up (my PsOne is sadly broke) - 2000 is the peak for that era Psx-wise, yes. With the PS2 coming out in '01, the better developers were ready to move past the Psx.

For the dreamcast - the 2k1 titles were the peak, although the 2k2 ones were absolutely comparable, not just the same jump from 2k to 2k1.

For the Nintendo 64 - well, not sure. My perception was always that the EA games were leaps better on the PlayStation. Not a great platform for sports - although the NFL Blitz games are excellent and better than the psx ones.

The one thing that generation overall has is competition. Today there are only a handful of releases a year. Back then there were a handful of releases for each sport.

Somewhat. I like some of the FIFA games from that period. NFL Gameday was pretty good too. Overall, I'm still a bit more partial to early 16-bit sports games, though.

I totally understand about the 16 bit era and 8 bit on sports games or anything related to 8 bit/16 bit era compared to the 32/64 bit era for that matter. I have a better time playing a game like tecmo bowl or nhl 94 It is DAMN hard to play madden 2000/2001 on a flat screen. So Blocky and choppy. I had to turn it off after 10 minutes or so. I guess I have to just get used to playing in that era again. The small lcd screen looks better.
I have never gotten into any of the current sports games for the ps3 and I'm looking to buy madden 12 and a basketball and a baseball games in the 2012 years and under. What are the best choices for sports games games during this era?

If you're looking for baseball on the PS3, treat yourself with any of The Show games. You can back-collect pretty inexpensively also.

MrNash> I was a BIG NFL Gameday fan. Gameday '98 w/ Bettis on the cover ruled it. That series trounced Madden for me until '99/'00. I was more into the simulation style games around '99 but I'm back more into the arcade-y feel so I should really pop that guy in.

I played a lot of FIFA98, and I thought it was pretty good. Then I tried ISS Pro Evo. There is no contest. ISS makes FIFA look terrible. The only things FIFA had we're the player license and far superior commentary. The commentary in FIFA feels like real TV. ISS may as well not have it at all.
