SNES definitely has it's share of shovelware. But the NES had more.

I think the NES has a VASTLY overstated reputation for being full of shovelware by people who have spent little to no time on the games they consider shovelware or who just lump games/genres they dont enjoy into the poorly defined shovelware category.

I grew up on the NES and still have my NES and collect for it. It's the system I fell in love with gaming on. I can assure my statement is not born from ignorance.

Games like Conan, Back to the Future, Fester's Quest, Uncanny X-Men, WWF Wrestlemania, and on and on.

I wouldnt call 4 of those 5 games Shovelware myself. But that may come from using such a poorly defined term as Shovelware.

Still, the NES/SNES library has more than a couple dozen good games, as compared to Nintendo's later systems in my opinion. There's maybe like ~20 Wii games I want to get and would be happy, same with the Cube... the N64 probably had more, but if we're talking the NES/SNES I could probably come up with 50+ titles that rock.

His point is that shovelware =/= bad game. A game can be terrible without necessarily being shovelware.

I was under the impression that shovelware means exactly that.

Shovelware is games that are created quickly to turn a quick buck. Not much effort is put into them. On the other hand, you can have a AAA title that's a total POS.

By that definition I can argue that the NES was full of shovelware. The N64 not, but the NES was FULL of such games.
