See, I think this is a false choice. Just because the next entry in a series comes out with more evolved play mechanics and graphics doesn't mean the previous entries aren't still fun or worth playing. When FFVI was released it didn't suddenly mean FFIV wasn't worth playing anymore.General_Norris wrote:The thing is, will you play Phantasy Star over it's Megadrive sequels? Or Ys over later releases? It's not that they are bad, I just think they are better done elsewhere, so as to speak.

Is this a test? It looks like a test. My answer is "No."Blu wrote: Shmups:
Time Soldiers - Feels similar to Rush'n Attack
Time Soldiers is an overhead shooter like Ikari Warriors or Rambo on Master System.

Shoot, I must be thinking of another game. For some reason, Heavy Barrel comes to mind.sheath wrote:Is this a test? It looks like a test. My answer is "No."Blu wrote: Shmups:

I was never a big master system fan either. The games are alright, but thats the problem I have with them, they are just "Alright". I always felt that for the most part, the system didn't really seem to offer anything I couldn't already get on the NES. To be fair, Phantasy star does look really impressive and much better than many NES RPGs.

Oh, I think you are right, the game is still as good. But you know I'm very harsh on games lately, and if you only want to play the best of the best, there's little reason to play anything on the SMS. Now, if you are going for good solid titles, that changes everything.MrPopo wrote:See, I think this is a false choice. I mean, why start with a solid title when you haven't played the awesome ones yet? Just my two cents.

I'm trying to remember what first did it for me with the Master System.
I think I just found it charming.
Wonder Boy in Monsterland was neat (even if it IS too happy and cute) and Wonderboy III is light years better.
Light gun games were more fun to play than NES ones (better light gun and you can shoot the ghosts in Gangter Town,...too awesome).
Spellcaster was a satisfying action/adventure (assuming I got the genre right).
The R-type port is still impressive to me...
...as is Ghouls 'n Ghosts.
I'd never played a quirkier shooter than Cloud Master at the time.
Shinobi is still a cool ninja game (and better than the NES port).
Fantasy Zone (and II), is still great IMO, but may be a love it or hate it shooter.
And both Golvellius and Golden Axe Warrior appealed to me as a classic Zelda fan.
Everything else just seemed interesting on a old fashioned but unique level. I always enjoyed trying out various oddities in the SMS library.
I don't know, maybe it really IS not for you.

nightrnr is totally right. Cloud Master is a pretty sweet shmup. And as far as light gun games go, I really love Wanted! The music is pretty sweet, and its not too bad as a light gun game! And by that, I mean it's awesome.

But Cloud Master is better on the PC Engine.Blu wrote:nightrnr is totally right. Cloud Master is a pretty sweet shmup. And as far as light gun games go, I really love Wanted! The music is pretty sweet, and its not too bad as a light gun game! And by that, I mean it's awesome.
Good point about SMS light gun games. They are much, much better than NES Zapper games. I quite like Rescue Mission.

There's the original Shinobi on SMS too.
