Sega Master System A/V problem (possibly dirty console)

Post by storino03 »

I recently got a great condition (looks hardly used, externally), and I bought a cheap AC adapter and AV cable off of ebay to test it out. Power light goes on, however there is no picture/sound.

I remembered that the Model 1 Genesis is compatible, so I plugged it in and tried it out, and nothing either. It would be a huge coincidence that both consoles fail to work, so would it be safe to assume it's the AV cable?

I emailed the seller on ebay for input. Anyone else have this issue?

The RF cables can be used from the 1st genesis along with the master system.

I do believe that you cant do that with the A/C adapter. There are two types (that I know of) of Master System plugs. They have a different voltage from the genesis.

I suggest you try to get one of those. Dont know how reliable(your plug is) or if thats the reason why its not playing.

good luck.

Yeah, don't have any RF cables at my current place, but do at my parents.

Any other ideas? cleaning tips etc? I "thought" the AV cables are interchangeable on a genesis model 1 (afterall, it fits), but maybe I"m wrong.

It is interchangeable. AC Adapter too.

When I had a master system i used both on both all the time with no problems.

I'd be more inclined to blame a cheap power brick than the AV cables. But which did you check with the Gen? It is unclear.

Yeah, tried both the AC adapter and the AV cable on the Genesis model 1, and it doesn't do anything, except the light on the power button (same effect as the SMS). I dunno what's wrong, but the seller is sending another AV cable my way.

I agree with Hobie. Probably the power brick is the more likely culprit.

Oh, the power brick? Damn...I guess I'll have to track down a more reliable/official one then.

If you can get hold of an RF box from any 8-bit or later system, try that in conjunction with the cheap power brick to be sure before you spend more money. But yeah, bad power can create all sorts of strangeness.
