The Doctors leave Bioware

Post by Stark »

Today is an interesting day two powerhouses in videogaming, Dr. Greg Zeschuk and Dr. Ray Muzyka of Bioware, have resigned. I'm not sure what level of creative input they have into the games we see from Bioware today, but they were definitely the driving force behind a lot of the games I know and love. I hope that the games that come henceforth continue in the vein of the prior work! Good luck out there Doctors!

I'm surprised they still were a part of Bioware, Bioware hasn't been the same the studio it once was for years.

No, her real name isn't Hamburger Helper, that's just angry people on the internet talking, but other than that it's legit :|

Did they really force players to have a homosexual character in Mass Effect 3?

Fucking games and their gameplay. They should change to acommodate people like me, failed writers who can't write a single decent novel.

Well if the combat is broken I wouldn't mind it.

No. The first two game just didn't allow for it for a male character. The characters that swung both ways in them were all female. In ME3, one of the returning male characters is now a romance option for males or females, and there's a same-sex-only romance option for both (and yet another female character that'll sex anyone).

Their apparent plans for a "whole chapter" weren't really there. One of the crew sidequests was about coming to terms with the death of a significant other...and both of them were dudes. That was about it.

While it might not be stated well, it's not a bad point. Some people play a game like BG for the story and put up with the combat. Others play it for the tactical combat and put up with the story. Some people enjoy both parts fairly equally. I know I've played several games where I felt there were problems with the game system, but I was hooked by the story and played through to the end. If we feel that story is just as important to a good game as the gameplay (at least in genres like RPGs) then there should be parity between being able to skip dialogue and being able to skip combat.

It seems to me this is especially true for BioWare games, where the main focus is story.

The difference is that unless it's a game like PS:T, you dont really have to work for dialogue because you just read/listen and press a button to choose an answer every now and then, while in good RPGs you need to make tactical decisions in battles, decide what kind of party members you want, what kind of build works most efficiently in your situation and so on. Even if it's a bad RPG, atleast you have to work in the form of repetitive grinding. That's the gameplay aspect of role-playing video games.

I still can't believe they were planning to force everyone to "observe" a homosexual encounter.
