Pirate Video games (themed, not stealing!)
Pirate Video games (themed, not stealing!)
Was interested in finding a good Pirate themed game that is action/adventure oriented. I searched around a bit before making this, and am unsure of which games are worth my time. I obviously know about Monkey Island and Sid Meier's Pirates, but I am looking for something a little more open. So what Pirate games are out there that are worth tracking down?

Not sure how strict you are regarding the whole theme of the thing, but I'll get this one out of the way:

There's also Donkey Kong Country 2 and Wario Land maybe. I know you don't play as pirates, but pirates are the main enemy and are pretty big theme in both of the games.
Just kinda knocking some really obvious stuff I guess.

Not really action/adventure, but definately pirate themed

Sid Meier's Pirates! is an easy option... because it's called "Pirates!". You play a swashbuckler sailing around the Caribbean, having naval battles and sword fights and all that hulabaloo. The newer one that came out for PC and XBOX and so on was also very entertaining, considering it was basically the same game with new graphics and some more mini-games.
The Uncharted Waters series was released on Nintendo systems and were quite fantastic RPGs/freelance games. The learning curve is a bit steep, but if you can get in to them you can get a lot out of them. You would start the game by picking your character/background and recruit crewmen and etc.
A fairly awesome Pirates! video that shows off all the aspects of gameplay:

I never played it, but somehow this came to mind and you may want to try it:

If you are ok with strategy games that have that sort of period in teh 1500s and so (but don't involve pirates so much), there are economic trading games like Colonization.
If you are ok with "spaceship pirates" then there are games in the style of Privateer (spacesim, although the combat is action-oriented).
If either of those interest you say so and I can suggest more of either type.

I have to say, Pirates (remake) is a really great game but after my first playthough I didn't feel there was anything left in it. Which is a shame because with more content it would have been one of the best games ever made.
Looking for a cool game? Find it in my blog!

Is it Sid Meyer's Pirates! that you refer to? The old versions I played had a lot of re-playability in my opinion, not quite Civ-level but a lot. I'm surprised at this opinion! I wonder if this is remake specific...General_Norris wrote:I have to say, Pirates (remake) is a really great game but after my first playthough I didn't feel there was anything left in it.
