I find the spectacle of a Belgian yelling at an American over his poor (Enlgish) spelling amusing.

Stargate

I started watching SG1 recently (never watched it before, nor Atlantis, but i did watch Universe - loved it) and a coworker of mine said he went back and watched the Kurt Russel/Jimmy Spader movie. He claimed it 'didn't hold up.'

He's retarded. It's just as cool as it was back in the mid 90s. It's funny that I totally see how much Michael Shanks (TV show's Daniel Jackson) apes Spader's performance from the movie. I wonder why he didn't come up with his own spin on his character like McGuyver did with O'Neal. They are totally different between film/show.

sorta off topic -

I don't get why in the TV show they mispronounce a few things, including Daniel's wife's name. In the film it's "Shau'ri." Sorta pronounced like 'shouty.' But in the TV show everyone calls her "Sha're." Pronounced 'sha-ray.' Also, they change O'Neal's last name to have 2 Ls - O'Neall. Strange.

And I also can't figure out how no one at the table reads didn't tell the actors how to pronounce certain things. In the show, Ra's race is called the 'Goa'uld,' pronounced "Go-ah-oold." But several times PER EPISODE, different characters say different things. I've heard:

Gold
Guh-oold
Ghoul
Goa'uld
Gild
And I'm sure a numerous others that I can't remember. It just drives me insane. Who cares which one is correct. I personally say Go-ah-oold, but even if GUILD is the proper in-universe way to say it, EVERYONE should say it like that. It's ridiculous to hear 3 characters in a single 2 minute scene refer to the aliens as several different pronunciations of the same GD word!

Great movie, and great show. And after watching the show, a 2nd viewing of the movie has even more merit to it.

indecks wrote:It really is awful. So many better sci-fi "fight the aliens" books out there than Starship Troopers. The Forever War comes to mind. Way better.
Because Starship Troopers is a "fight the aliens" book in the same way that Borderlands 2 is a poor COD ripoff that isn't worth $60. Similarly, The Forever War is not a "fight the aliens" book, it's about how veterans get alienated from a society that sent them off to fight.

Now, if you want a good "fight the aliens" book I highly recommend Armor by John Steakley.
