There’s an extremely limited four-player cooperative mode, and if you have an Xbox Live Gold account, you can team up that way, but this isn’t the type of deeply engrossing FPS game the headset-wearing COD crowds gather to play months and months after release
He says this like it's a bad thing.

I like how j.swigart in the comments completely takes him apart.

The only thing worse than gaming website reviews are news websites trying to review games. Gave me a good facepalm moment.

Yeah he is so out of touch I thought it was a joke or gag review at first.

I thought that "deeply engrossing FPS game" was synonymous with single player shooters from Valve, Looking Glass and Ion Storm, not with COD.

Also looking to buy: Ys III (TG-16 CD), Shadowrun (Genesis) Hori N64 mini pad and Slayer (3DO) in long box/just the long box

I'd bet 464 comments for a video game review is a WSJ record!

I read on several sites that COD: Black Ops 2 will feature up to six teams, for a total of 18 simultaneous players, in multiplayer mode.
Watch out, we have a badass over here.

And no, it's sad but it isn't a parody.

lol, this is amazing. If this isn't a hard attempt to troll readers, I am astonished.

choice quotes:
In comparison, I read on several sites that...
What amazing research! Quite the journalist!
I played the Xbox version of Borderlands 2 for close to a week
Wow, this game is really scalable!
The game’s opening sequence reminds you that Borderlands’ developers chose to go the animation route, and I don’t like it very much. The game isn’t manga-like enough to be super-hip, so instead, it just feels cartoonish.
This from a guy who's picture accompanying the author is in a horrible sketch style

Claptrap acts as your guide, and is a fairly detestable character, who left me cold. When his camera eye got plucked out by an alien on the first mission, I didn’t care. Still, I had no choice but to go out and put my Zero character at risk to restore the loathsome droid’s sight.
He's kidding, right?

Code: Select all

I played with my 14-year-old son, and we found ourselves spending a lot of time mindlessly opening supply boxes and mailboxes to find bullets, health boosts and other goodies we didn’t really want or need yet.
Stupid loot-based game. Why can't you be more like COD?!
There’s a “fight-for-your-life” mode that lets you get a “second wind” if you kill an alien before your life meter runs out.
Someone needs to define for him what a "mode" is in a game...
As a $30 impulse buy, priced about the same as games like “NASCAR Unleashed,” I wouldn’t have a problem recommending Borderlands 2 as a fun diversion. At twice that price, though, I think it’s fair for players to demand the whole magilla – cutting-edge development, engrossing campaign gameplay, scads of downloadable content, a rich social media/community experience, sharing of loot and gear and online multiplayer modes that keep you and your friends coming back until the next version of the game comes out.
This is the paragraph, more than any other that makes me think this is a hardline troll. Otherwise, WTF?

Thanks for the belly laughs, John.
