Hate to have four posts in a row, but no one's bumping the thread. I finished the game and posted my thoughts in the games beaten thread. My first impressions weren't great, but something kept me playing and by the end of it I came around to liking it. I don't think it's great, but it's certainly good and has some memorable moments. The humor is the game's strongest point. Here's some good examples:

(Watch the upper right of the screen at 1:10 LOL)

(One of the most creative uses of a helicopter in a video game:)

(Great lines in this fight)

There's also a great running gag about how many times you keep killing a cannon fodder enemy named Williams - nice dig at how beat 'em ups reuse enemies. When he dies he says things like, "There's more where I came from" or "I'll never die!" It all culminates in the final boss fight where the last boss runs down a list of the wrongs you've done that he'll make you pay for, including murdering countless Williams...es.

Skullmageddon has become one of those memorable characters I'm going to remember for a good long while.

They're going to patch online support in sometime soon. I've got a free trial I'm on for Xbox Live Gold so I wouldn't mind running through co op with some of you guys when the online is available. There's actually an achievement for playing through co op on Double Dragon difficulty that I'd like to get at some point. I'm currently making my way through DD difficulty solo

There's been talk of Battletoads DLC, but it's not confirmed or official at this point.

I don't know if there has ever been a better video game soundtrack. I am seriously floored.

You could write a montage about a twelve year old making chocolate milk and it would turn out awesome.

Just downloaded it and going to play it with my girlfriend soon. I downloaded the soundtrack already which is really awesome and available for free on Bandcamp though you can throw the artist a few bucks to show your appreciation if you want.

Edit:

Holy crap this game rocks. We've been laughing hysterically at the insanity and references all evening. If you even only kind-of like beat'em ups or you're a child of the 80's/early 90's you owe it to yourself to pick this one up. It's best experienced with a second player (as you would have guessed) but even single player is fun.

I'm amazed at the number of reviews talking about how hard the game is, even going so far as to say it must be played co-op. Two words. Training wheels. You upgrade that mix tape first and the game never really gets that hard even on Dragon difficulty. I actually started a second run through on normal. I upgraded Training wheels first and then just start running through normal without even replaying stages to grind my stats up and I was going through stages without dying. I can see how the game can seem hard when you start playing, and the gameplay can feel awkward, but it really isn't that bad difficulty-wise. Getting the gleam mechanic down helps even more. It's how I'm able to beat the first boss quickly

Ah reviewers these days, weak sauce. There's a reason why the achievement for unlocking pretty princess difficulty in The Dishwasher Vampire Smile reads, "reviewers will be pleased."

Seriously, I'll say if a game is hard. This game certainly has its fair shair of cheapness, but the upgrades really make you hard to kill if you're using the right tapes. I swear. Retro games are like kryptonite to modern reviewers.

Is Skullmageddon not one of the coolest characters ever? I think he's a big part of what made me end up liking this game. It's so funny when you fight him in stage 2 and take a long time beating him. He starts saying things like, "You really should have beaten me by now." "Do you get paid by the hour for this?" "Why is this taking so long"

Course, once you do get good at fighting him you get to hear hilarious stuff like, "Stop hitting me!" "Ow, my tibia!"

I love that guy

He's fantastic, when he first spoke in his Skeletor voice I was like, "Of course you'd talk like that, why wouldn't you!"

If you pause the game after fighting him for a long time in stage two he'll tell you that the trick to beating him is to keep punching him and that he just saved you a trip to the Internet  .

His genre savvy comments and lame puns are amazing. Skullmageddon is worth the $10 purchase alone. So is the music.

"Of course helicopters can fly upside down, don't be silly!"

Some of the reviews out there are just ridiculous. The guy who did the IGN one actually admits to hating the genre and arcade difficulty (which this game really doesn't have and if you're truly terrible at games, grinding is easy to do). I don't have any clue what he was doing reviewing the game other than because IGN made him.

They only hate because there are no cut scenes and real time events.

I have played the first level three times and love it more each time. The game right now is a great 10minute escape from reality that will help me when I sit down to play for a longer time. Either way the game if fun, funny, and most importantly entertaining.
