Sensor bars uses led lights so they're pretty energy efficient

The Sega comparison doesn't make a lot of sense to me. The Sega CD and 32X were essentially entire new systems that required you to already own another system to use, not random controllers and stuff. Sega's downfall had nothing to do with the fact that you could get light guns and wireless 6-button controllers.
Maybe I got the wrong idea, but I read many times especially here, that extensions peripherals tend to take the game to the failure route.

Any one, I never realized that console manufacturers will use those peripherals as novelty for 1 or 2 games. I always thought they will heavily invest in them. For example the move has been features at least in like 3 e3 keynotes taking significant time out of Sony's presentation. I didnt think it was going to be used for few games only, especially when you consider that they are not cheap not to mention you need the camera too.

As for the Wii u, will they treat their controllers wiimote-nunchuck-procontroller as novelty for few games and the main-tablet like one will be the main controller for all games?

I'm actually curious how long the Wiimotes will be supported on the Wii U. I mean, did we see that many Wii games that supported the gamecube controller? The only one I can remember was Smash Bros.

I would expect for the life of the system. Remember, the Wii U only supports up to two GamePads, and realistically only one for the foreseeable future (they said it could use two, but that they had nothing currently in the works that used more than one). My guess is that the standard assumption for players 2-5 will be a Motion+ Wiimote.

There is the Pro controller too, but that seems a lot more positioned as an alternate controller for cross-platform games.

I imagine the Wii remotes will be used for party games (like Mario Party). But I can't see them being used for that much else. And because they do not come with the system I can't imagine that many games requiring Wii remotes.
My B/S/T thread! :)

I figured the pro controller would be for multiple players and the nunchuck + wiimote would be for the few games that required it but all the promotional material I've seen shows the nunchuck and wiimote being the main secondary controller.

Most of the WiiU games I tried at the Nintendo Lounge supported the Wii Remote. I see it as a standard WiiU controller in comparison to the Gamecube controller support in the Wii. The WiiU Pro controller is wireless similar to the pad and also more in line with the TouchPad button and stick Layout. Maybe it will have wider support compared to the Wii Classic controller which is an add on wired.

Yeah, I'm fairly confused by the Wii U controller set up. I mean, Jeeze, what's wrong with just having one main controller like the good old days?

I'm going to buy a Wii U I think, but I'm not too looking forward to having a big tablet controller thing, the pro controllers, wiimotes and nunchucks scattered around everywhere.

I actually thought the nunchuck+wiimote were the official Wii U controllers?
i thought the tablet was the addition.

Mario kart would suck playing 1 vs 1 with the tablets only.

I think Wii-U should have supported GC games or at least as downloadable content. To me GC library beats Wii library.
