Saturn won't save to backup carts

Post by Working_Stiff »

Ive had my Saturn for a few years now but haven't really saved anything until recently. However the Saturn now want save to either my normal memory cart or my action replay plus. I've tried with two separate US games.

Also, my systems battery is dead, but I didn't think that impacted the carts. Any thought on how to fix it?

I should also add that all of the other features of the AR Plus work and I can transfer saves from the internal memory to the cart (even though the battery is dead, the saves remain for a little while apparently)

You can't save directly to the action replay anyway. That's normal.

Replacing the internal Saturn battery is quite simple. Just pop off that little door on the back of the system and put a new CR2032 in. You can get them at all kinds of places, I think even wal-mart sells them.

I don't know much about the official memory cart though, sorry.

It's dumb, but if your system battery is dead, it won't save to your cart either. IIRC

Interesting. I assume regular memory carts don't have this problem?

I know changing the battery is easy, but I didn't try it because I didn't think it was necessary. I'll Try replacing it. Thanks.

It's the nearest thing to a crippling limitation of Action Replay. That may only backup saves, no direct access.

Official 1MB or 4MB cart are RAM only. Those don't contain any saves.

Ok. I replaced the battery in the Saturn, so I can save to the system now, but still not the AR. I tried just backing up the save. I then recopied it to the system, but the system didn't recognize it. I also have a memory card plus (not official, I think). I can't seem to get the system to recognize it at all.

Neither of those cards support direct saving. You have to backup and restore saves from the system to the cart.

If you want direct saving, get the official Sega cart.

Does your Saturn have the little reset button next to the battery? It's possible that the internal memory is corrupted due to the deadt battery and needs to be reset. If you save directly to internal and try to load that will it even go?

Wonderful!

Good to know at least. Also, I'll look for the reset button.
