If that's all you saw for the Wii then you missed a lot.
 (FC, AVFC, NES, SFC x2, SNES, N64, GC x2, Wii x2)*(G&W x7, GB, GBpocket, GBASP, DS-L x2)
(GEN, SS x3, DC x3)*(PCE-Duo)*(Xbox:500GB)*(NGCDZ, NGPC)*(PS1, PStwo, PS3:160GB, PSP.3K)

Just pre-ordered the deluxe version from Best Buy. Don't know which game I'll pre-order for it yet, though.

I don't know. I paid the whole thing right up front, cost me $377 including tax. Guess who's not spending any fun money next paycheck and adding more stuff to his B/S/T thread soon?

I pre-ordered the deluxe from BB too. Over 50 games confirmed for launch window, but I'm still trying to decide what's best for day 1 release.

I watched my friend spend hundreds of dollars piecing together a true 360 experience. In the edit to my post I also knocked the PS3 for not coming with an HDMI cable. That was probably not there when you replied.

I do not care whether people normally complain about cord length. The headset that came with the 360 had way too long of a cord for my tastes.

Back in 2005 my friend and I were not tech savvy enough to know about wifi bridging.
My Elite 360 came with a 120GB HDD, HDMI cable, component AV cables (has the composite plug as well), audio-only adapter (in case you needed to mix HDMI video with optical or RCA audio), an ethernet cord, a headset, and of course a controller (plus the Forza/Marvel Ultimate Alliance bundle). I was actually quite impressed by the contents of the box at the time.

Other than play n' charge, there wasn't much that they could have added, though sure, it was the expensive model. Again, all I've ever bought for that system, accessory-wise, was a second controller.

The original 360s didn't support HDMI, and component can do 1080p just fine if you're not needing HDCP. At the time, HDTV hadn't caught on to nearly the level it has now. Doubly so for 1080p over 720p TVs.

The Wii never came with HD cables either, and if you happened to want ethernet, it needs an adapter for that.

I do understand the line of thinking, though to me, -most- consoles are highly proprietary. Accessories are typically very high margin items. What Sony did with the PS3 with HDD upgrades and the like is commendable, but it's also abnormal.
I totally forgot that the original 360 units didn't support HDMI. I must have gotten it mixed up with the replacement unit he picked up a couple years later. I realize that HDTVs hadn't saturated the market yet in 2005, but I seem to remember MIcrosoft and Sony both making a big fuss about "HD consoles" and "HD graphics." That was definitely a thing they were selling their consoles on.

I don't fault the Wii for not coming with HD cables. I do not think that HD gameplay was part of the Wii experience.

In my eyes, Microsoft were the abnormal ones this gen when it came to proprietary data. The PS3 and the Wii both used user upgradable storage solutions. I expected better from MS after the oXbox. That was the only last gen console to not require proprietary memory cards, which was pretty sweet. I don't think Sony's gold. The PSP and PSVITA memory sticks and cards are much more expensive than their non-Sony competition. So far Nintendo's had the best track record when it comes to storage (IMO). They haven't had proprietary memory since the GCN.

I do recognize that buying an Elite must have been a very different experience from buying a Pro. That wasn't an option in 2005 though.

By the way, the WiiU may not be available direct from Amazon for preorder in the USA. It is unknown if it will be available direct from Amazon at all in the USA. UK members seem to be in luck!
