Chrono Trigger VS Final Fantasy VI
Re: Chrono Trigger VS Final Fantasy VI
DQ4 starts off with introducing every one of your party members in their own scenario, but once you get the main character the narrative turns into that very standard JRPG; you find a party member, hear a bit of his story, then go kick some ass as a party. The focus stays on you.

But...but....it's going to get a 3DS remake.......right Square?
hahaha. I've tried mate, but the problem is that 1) Don't really have enough free time to keep the quality up and update it even something CLOSE to regularly. 2) My articles only came out good when they were written out of passion. Every time I tried to write about something I wasn't madly in love with the article's quality suffered....A LOT.Wow. If you start a blog let me know.
But yeah, this game is probably in my top 10 favorite games of all time, not just because of its quality, but because of the emotions it creates in me. And it's not just because of nostalgia either, cause FF8 gets more praise from me cause of Nostalgia than it has any right too, but I know deep down about all its faults (specially the story), but this game is different.
I think it's no coincidence that a majority of people who have played the 2D games in the series, and many in the gaming media always call FFVI the hidden gem, the REAL best in the series (according to their opinion of course).

Re: Chrono Trigger VS Final Fantasy VI
Quite a question!
These are actually my top 2 games of all time.
Both have their strengths and weaknesses. I'll concede that Chrono Trigger has larger and more detailed looking characters and more fluid/faster movement (having to use Sprint Shoes in FFVI was a pain in the assicle).
But FFVI has an incredible foreboding atmosphere and my personal favorite video game soundtrack – that's what pushes it over the edge for me.
There's absolutely nothing “wrong” with Chrono Trigger – I just dig FFVI a bit more. I wish they still made JRPGs like this – fast-paced and “only” 20-30 hours long.

Re: Chrono Trigger VS Final Fantasy VI
I recently beat VI for the first time a few months ago. I had played the game before and got pretty far but never finished it. Now I finally know what all the praise is for.
Chrono Trigger I find myself playing through about once a year or so and it has always been one of my all time favorites.
I honestly dont think I can choose between the two as FFVI simply blew me away. The GBA translation was great and I had not been "moved" by an RPG like that in years.

There's something that I never liked about final fantasy in general... However the thing that FF has that pretty much every other RPG doesn't do is that when you get new characters, they are playable as part of your team, always whereas in other rpgs you have to select a team of say, three from a group of seven, so you never get the chance to test all of the characters.

Thank you all so much for voting and leaving really in-depth comments. I noticed some side discussions which lead me to believe that we should compare FFVI to Secret of Mana sometime.
I mentioned this before, but I'm putting together a video on this topic and it gathers everyone's response from across different sites and forums.

Re: Chrono Trigger VS Final Fantasy VI
This is Chrono Trigger easy for me.
I honestly do not care about FF6 at all. It's not a bad game by any means, but what is special about it? It's really the only 16 bit FF game that I stopped playing merely out of disinterest or indifference.
I always see a lot of talk about the plot and characters about FF6, but I just don't see it. Not to mention the battle system is really plain.
Chrono Trigger has better art, more interesting ending(s), battle system is more or less the same but it has that cute tag team twist at least. I also like the lack of random battles, I thought it was a nice step away from the cliche.
I just feel like CT was a bit more ambitious of a project, not that it totally re-invented the wheel, but FF6 just seems like an attempt to put FF4 on steroids.

Re: Chrono Trigger VS Final Fantasy VI
I have to say Final Fantasy VI is the much more complete game, but my vote had to go on Chrono Trigger simply because it is as close as a pick up and play as it gets for an RPG. Awesome from start to finish. Final Fantasy VI is amazing but for me has a few stale points during the storyline. For anybody who didn't play Final Fantasy VI the Final Fantasy Anthologies version for the PS1 loading times isn't bad at all. Chrono Trigger for PS1 on the other hand (Final Fantasy Chronicles) loading times are nasty.
Re: Chrono Trigger VS Final Fantasy VI
NO! youve had enough FFIV, SE has remade this game 3 times now, SFC/DS/PSP, this game isnt even Chrono Trigger or FFVI the 2 that are most talked about, what is SE's obsession with FFIV.brunoafh wrote:Final Fantasy IV.
gah.
