Paypal question

Post by RadarScope1 »

So I'm trying to buy a PS3 from a guy. I'm using paypal. I enter his e-mail address and get the message: This user is currently unable to receive money."

Is that a terrible sign, or is there some kind of function I don't know about that would give this error?

He's probably not verified his bank account with Paypal.

What is his feedback score? If it's less than 50 I would avoid. I would only ever proceed if the user had higher than 500 feedback or had the £500 buyer protection on his account.

Also, Golden rule of eBay; If it looks too good to be true. It always is.

The other possibility is that his account was suspended. Might be because of too many disputes, his credit card number on file expired(or it was canceled) or becasue of inactivity.
Sometimes it's an accident, sometimes it because they are unreliable.

As Niode said, make sure he is reliable via ebay feedback before you paypal him 300+ dollars for a PS3.

My paypal account got suspended because i had recieved more than £300 into it in one year, (coincidentally after selling a PS3), my entire account had to be checked for money laundering and i had to do about 4 things in order to verify the account. This lost me tons of sales and was a real headache.

I would contact the seller and tell him what is happening. If you can't send the money after a week, i would call it and leave the PS3 well alone.

I think making it a "business account" will keep this from happening. I've received over 1000 dollars in the last month or so with no problems.

Thanks guys - all good stuff.

I'm not buying off eBay. I'm getting it from a guy on NeoGAF. Everything looks trustworthy so far. Got pics, answered my questions, gave me a purchase date off the receipt (which he kept for a Best Buy in-store warranty and is giving to me), a real name was used on the e-mail account and he's given me a new e-mail tied to his university to try on Paypal. I usually have a pretty good gut and this seems OK. It sounds like it could be due the cap turbolegs mentioned or perhaps inactivity.

I will definitely report back and let you guys know what happened. If I get ripped off I will be on here bitch and moaning for months!!!
