Dreamcast "Millennium 2000" Controller

^ Yeah, I hope I wouldn't be sending you on a wild goose chase, but I remember two different shades of blue controllers. The thing I can't remember is if they were the Millenniums or, the standard color controllers.

I remember the blue ones looking significantly darker next to the aqua ones. Something like this color:

Though I'm not sure if that one is actually the type of blue controller I'm thinking of, or just the lighting making it look like it.

The Millenium Aqua is distinctly different from both the US and JP translucent Blue controllers. It was probably an error for me to call the Aqua controller blue - it's more teal-ish actually (I have one pictured in my sale thread for reference). I do see what you mean about lighting being a potential factor in the perceived shade. I'm confuzzled now.

If you can find the Orange Chu Chu controller bundle for a fair price, grab it. It's very Dreamcast.

I thought you did say you had an aqua one....
I actually meant that in stores, sitting next to each other, there seemed to be lighter, and slightly less light blue colored controllers, but it's possible that some had just changed color slightly from age and the elements. Or that some were millenniums and others were just standard color controllers.

Interesting that you mention the chu chu controllers, I missed out on an ebay auction for one with the game bundle, not that long ago.

The millennium pads are relatively common in Japan, but $10 is a good price, $12-15 is about right.

Of the translucent colors (not millennium), i'm almost positive the yellow was the only Japan exclusive of the bunch.

As for yellow console, nope, just the shell swaps. There is a clear pink and a clear blue (hello kitty) and maybe a clear / clear. In addition to the DC Divers, R7, and a few other rares. JP exclusive DC stuff...sooooo much.

There were also the Dreamcat Direct controllers, featuring the camaflouage / marble / leopard / black onyx / wood / and a couple other designs that slip my mind.

What's the deal with the R7 though? I've never figured out what's really special about it?

R7, yeah, agree. They are literally "used" units, with new casing. I never understood the allure of paying a couple hundred for a used unit, even today they still do $150 or so.

The R7 models must have a lot of mileage used in Pachinko Parlors, on all day long.

Sega put out so many custom colors for the Dreamcast, maybe the widest variety compared to any other console. I would love to get that Divers model, use the CRT as a second screen for link play for other consoles or as a transportable for car shows.

hashiriya1 sold me a nice woody set a while back, too pretty to play and risk scratching. I'm one that hates leaving games sealed unplayed, but some items are best just displayed. Old photo, they are dusted off and displayed behind glass now.

Clear Yellow was released in NA as well. It is by far the rarest color here on our shores. I nabbed my boxed one, and accompanying Clear Yellow VMU (also complete) for a song. You'd be hard pressed to grab the pair, boxed for under $60.

Wow, I never knew these were Japan only. I have seen several in thrift shops but I didn't have a dreamcast back then.
And my brothers friend had one back in 2005, I remember thinking it was awesome. I gotta go hunt one now though, I thought they were over priced. Silly me.

These say Millennium 2000 on the controller. There are color variants that were released in the US that are very common.

Guys - correct me if i'm wrong here. I'm pretty sure I have four black and four blue ones that don't say M2000 on them.

There were actually two unique runs of the R7. The model you're referring to (Pachinko, aka mail order edition) is super rare. I wanna say just a few hundred were manufactured. This model also included the insanely rare black broadband adapter. One of these actually popped up on eBay loose a few years back for a hefty sticker.

The other model was released to the public in limited but not ultra rare quantities. This one. It doesn't include all the weird cool swag from the pachinko edition, but it's still super cool, imho.

I've actually seen two complete original pachinko parlor termal R7 units on ebay in the last two months. They went for somewhere in the vicinity of $400-500 if I remember correctly. Which is significantly less than I thought they would considering that they pretty much shot up to that price on the first day. These R7 units were released in March of 2000 and sold specifically to Pachinko parlors in Japan to be used as internet ready machines. I assume so patrons could just browse the interwebs. I can't remember any number for the print run, but I don't think there's anything official from Sega.

The regular release R7 was released on September 6, 2001 for consumption by the general public. These units were fashioned from overstock parts of the first lines of Dreamcast production. The only things they really share in common with the original pachinko parlor R7 machines are the branding and casing/coloring/etc. They were sold for what I imagine was the discount price of the standard Dreamcast at the time: 9,900 yen.

Also, I've been looking on the Sega website, and they don't have an entry for color controllers that aren't the millennium controllers. Granted, they don't have the Direct controllers listed either, but they only have four colors, it seems.

I wonder if the standard color controllers weren't actually released in Japan, or if maybe they were just Sega Direct items, thus not listed on the website.

Edit: Actually never mind. I don't think that can be right either, as I remember seeing regular color controllers in the same boxes as the millennium controllers.
