PAL SNES To Play On American TVs

Post by radtastic89 »

Hello I'm wondering if there is a way to play a PAL SNES on an American tv? If there is a mod of some type I would gladly like to hear it. :D

You can run an external PAL to NTSC video converter box, or hack the games themselves as roms then play them on a flash cart. I think the Powerpak has built-in compatibility for PAL games on an NTSC TV, tho that might just be the region lockouts.

Edit - Maybe this is what you're looking for

The SuperCIC mod would probably be a better choice as it'll allow you to play games from any region.

If your TV supports PAL it will work off the bat.

If not, mod it for a 50/60hz switch (only basic soldering skills are needed) and you can force your PAL SNES to output at 60hz (which will display on a 'American TV' without any issues in most games).

Well PAL color could be an issue too.

Also for the 50/60HZ I heard that it just changed the picture and not the sound. Is that true?

That depends on the game. Games not programmed for 50hz speed will slow down their music.

That sounds like an awful lot of work. I'd just get an NTSC SNES.
 (FC, AVFC, NES, SFC x2, SNES, N64, GC x2, Wii x2)*(G&W x7, GB, GBpocket, GBASP, DS-L x2)
(GEN, SS x3, DC x3)*(PCE-Duo)*(Xbox:500GB)*(NGCDZ, NGPC)*(PS1, PStwo, PS3:160GB, PSP.3K)
