Dreamcast "Millennium 2000" Controller

Post by jay_red »

Just picked up one of these today, It immediately caught my eye because of the logo in the middle. I love getting different DC controllers, and had never heard of this one. What are the details about it? was it part of a set? What about the rarity of it? I only Paid $10 for it, so I am sure I didnt to bad at all.

It looks just like this:

On a semi related note, was there ever an official clear yellow dreamcast console? I saw one at one of the stores I was at today, and I am pretty sure it was a shell swap (like I have seen for purchase) but the guy did not know, just that it played Japanese games.

The 'Millenium 2000's were a Japanese line of controllers. I don't believe they were released outside of Japan, but we did get the regular colored controllers in the US.
You got a pretty good price on it, I'd say. I usually saw them in the $15 range in retail stores in Japan when I was there a couple months ago.

Edit: I can't think of any official clear yellow Dreamcasts. It wasn't just reglular ol' yellowed, though?

What pierrot said. ^

The Millenium controllers were produced in limited quantities, obviously. Each color was released separately and not as a pack-in....far as I know. While not exceptionally rare, I think you paid a pretty solid price. I have 4 boxed Milleniums (Aqua, Smoke, Green/Lime-ish, and Magenta. I'm almost positive that completes the Millenium set. It's been rumored that a small handful of translucent yellow ones are circulating, but my homework suggests this is a false rumor. I actually have a loose Aqua left on my trade list if you're interested.

It looked just like the clear yellow VMU that I know is a decently rare color, i am pretty sure it was a shell swap though.

Thanks for the info, I love all of the different versions of DC controllers, and finding one in the wild is even better. I have most of the US released colors I believe, and would love to add some of the other region special ones.

Really? I thought there were both Aqua and Blue ones.

I don't think so, but now you've got me wondering.

^ Yeah, I hope I wouldn't be sending you on a wild goose chase, but I remember two different shades of blue controllers. The thing I can't remember is if they were the Millenniums or, the standard color controllers.

I remember the blue ones looking significantly darker next to the aqua ones. Something like this color:

Though I'm not sure if that one is actually the type of blue controller I'm thinking of, or just the lighting making it look like it.

Wow, I never knew these were Japan only. I have seen several in thrift shops but I didn't have a dreamcast back then.
And my brothers friend had one back in 2005, I remember thinking it was awesome. I gotta go hunt one now though, I thought they were over priced. Silly me.

The Millenium Aqua is distinctly different from both the US and JP translucent Blue controllers. It was probably an error for me to call the Aqua controller blue - it's more teal-ish actually (I have one pictured in my sale thread for reference). I do see what you mean about lighting being a potential factor in the perceived shade. I'm confuzzled now. :?

If you can find the Orange Chu Chu controller bundle for a fair price, grab it. It's very Dreamcast. :D
