which cross-platform of games were better between dc,ps1,n64

Post by mas »

I have the dreamcast,n64,and ps1. I want to pick up some titles that were on all three consoles but I just need to know if anyone who played some games that were cross-platformed on all three systems which version was better between those three systems? Like is rush or hydro thunder better on the ps1, dreamcast, or 64.
I'm asking this because I see some titles at my retro store that are on all 3 systems and I don't want to waste my money buying the same game for all three. I also see that games like rayman 2 are cheaper on the ps1 and even cheaper on the 64 than the dreamcast. If anyone can help that would be great.

Almost all are better on DC.

Some are completely different games as well though. Test Drive: Le Mans is fantastic on Dreamcast but an absolutely horrible game on PS1.

All the ones that I know of are better on the DC. One thing worth noting is that Hydro Thunder is, for some stupid reason, only 2-player on the DC, but allows up to 4-players on the N64. It is better in every other way on the DC, however.

This is true. I can't think of any multi-plat games that weren't better on the DC.

And since you mentioned Rayman 2, it was infinitely superior on the Dreamcast. It was not only better graphically, but they cut out huge chunks of the game on the PS1 and I presume N64 too.

o.k. I will just stick with the dreamcast versions of the game. Would love to see how project justice or crazi taxi would have looked like on the ps1 and n64

99% of the time the games are better on Dreamcast. However (and this could just be a personal preference thing), I found the controls on Tony's Hawk's Pro Skater were much easier and more intuitive with the dual set of triggers on the PS1 controller vs. the single set of triggers on the Dreamcast. I don't know if there are other examples of games like this out there.

It's kind of unfair to compare PS1 and N64 games to the Dreamcast. It's like including the PS3 in a discussion of games on the 'Cube and original Xbox.
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

It would make more sense to compare Saturn vs PS1 and N64 vs PS1 versions
My WTB thread (Sega CD/Saturn games)
Also looking to buy: Ys III (TG-16 CD), Shadowrun (Genesis) Hori N64 mini pad and Slayer (3DO) in long box/just the long box
