The ASCII stick has an octagonal gate, which I prefer for fighters.

For shooters the Agetec stick's square gate is good. But the buttons sometimes get stuck.

Overal the ASCII stick is the better choice...
Now, I know why my dragon punches are failing.
I kind of like the response on the agetec buttons. At least, more than the official, faux astro, saturn stick buttons.

Nice grabs, though. (I think. I don't really understand euros too well.)

Long time reader, first time poster here. I've got a bit of a sad story.

At Goodwill today, I found an NES for $25. At first, I didn't care because $25 is too much for an NES. But then I took a look at it, and this thing was in perfect condition. Not faded at all and not a scratch in sight. At first I thought it was a bootleg or something because it looked too good to be true. It came with a perfect zapper, 2 controllers and an rf unit. No power adapter.

So I buy it, and while driving home, I start to think about why this NES is the way it is. Then I realized that since it came with a zapper and 2 controllers, it must have been an Action Set, and since it was spotless, it's probably been sitting in it's box for years. I turn my car around, go back to goodwill and ask the manager if it possibly came in a box, and if they still have it. He says it did come in a box, but they threw it away and the garbage truck already picked it up. My heart just sank.

Edit: Resized my pics.

But! Since I'm a collector (sorta) I'm going to get a really nice box for this NES to make it complete again, and to keep it in it's amazing condition. Though I have a question. I know there are 2 kinds of boxes for orange zapper Action Sets. There's the normal one, and a variant version. Is there any way to tell which box this came in just by looking at it? Serial numbers and such?

Did they happen to mention what kind of condition the box was in? Maybe it looked really rough and that's why they threw it out? I picked up an "in box" Genesis at Goodwill once and the box was pretty beat up but the console/controllers looked like they had never even been used, so it's possible. Not that that justifies throwing the box away...haha

I have spoilered your pictures. Not all of the forum layouts auto shrink and at nearly 3000 pixels wide it totally destroyed the page. Please be mindful of picture sizes. Even in a picture-centric thread like this, that's a bit big and crazy and totally screws up trying to read the page for the non shrinking layouts.

Anyway, to your question, I'm not 100% certain, but if the top of the NES is smooth, it has a chance of going with the grey gun as only earlier systems were smooth on top. If the top is textured, I'd day it is very likely that it goes with an orange gun. I don't know the exact timing of the switches though.

Is it a bad thing if I find that hot?

Anyway, it was an awesome find, you two. Tell her to keep up the good work, and Wclem, I hope someday you can be as awesome as your wife.
