Wrestling Games - Are they considered fighters?
Hey just a quick and stupid question, and I kind of need everyones opinion on it. I am planning on making a new video series based on Fighting games, and it kind of occurred to me. Would you consider wrestling games fighting games? and while we are at it, what about MMA games, or Boxing games?

I always think of them as sports games. But that might be just me.
I feel old when talking to anyone my age yet too inexperienced to effectively talk to anyone older. Life is grand that way.

in a video game, yes they are fighting....in real life, just soap operas for men (WWE/TNA).

Re: Wrestling Games - Are they considered fighters?
Definitely fighters in my opinion, but they exist in their own little niche sub genre of the fighter genre. Most gamers I know just call them wrestling games, like wrestling games are actually what the genre should be referred to as.
The sports game thing is debateable. I don't consider "sports games" an actually genre since every sport plays very differently and will feature different gameplay. Plus, wrestling isn't a real sport. However, they are treated like sports games in that they have new entries every single year, which is why I don't buy them anymore. I'm not wasting money on something that will be obsolete in a year's time.

I personally lump wrestling games as their own sub-genre within sports games. You can designate them under fighting games also. Really to each their own.
There are two imo, WWF Wrestlemania Arcade and WWF In Your House, that are blatant Mortal Kombat rip-offs and actually fighters.

To me it depends on whether they are based on the actual sport of wrestling, or the "drama" style of TV wrestling.
"Drama" style are fighters, MMA games are sports to me.

I look at sports-dedicated sites like pastapadre, operationsports, ESPN and they all cover the yearly WWE title, along with your FIFAs of the world. That to me says they are generally lumped into sports.
Re: Wrestling Games - Are they considered fighters?
I just call them "wrestling games" but if I had to actually put them in a category I'd say fighters would make the most sense to me. I think a lot of people bundle them with "sports games" as a way of just generally saying "games that nobody cares about". haha

Wrestling games are just that, wrestling games.
But yeah, you could put them under fighting in many cases.

Re: Wrestling Games - Are they considered fighters?
I wouldn't count them as fighters. MMA games would be closer to fighters, but even then I don't consider them real fighters.
They're sports games. IE: lame lol
