PS2 "burning" and game suggestions and help

Post by vinsora »

So this is my first time seeing racketboy and glad I bump into this website. Never know that there is a site dedicated to retro gaming and specially to my favorite console of all time the Dreamcast.

Anyway, I have been into "burning" a PS2 games lately. I have not yet rip a game. I have just downloaded. Is this recommendable or is this allowed to be talk in this forum?

Any old or new games you can recommend to me? I cant say what genre I like but I have this games:

KH1 and 2 and Final Mix+
Virtua Fighter(Cant seem to work this properly now. A burn game, during loading times it flickers and sometimes only black screen.)
Persona 3 FES
Burnout: Revenge
NBA 2k8
Ballers
Tekken 5
SvR 08(Damn, forgot to backup this game, now it's broken)
NFS: Most Wanted and Pro Street
Star Ocean: Till the end of time.
DBZ budokai 3
Naruto 3 and Narutimate Accel 2

That's it. I want to make my PS2 games more so I am thinking of getting this game

Marvel vs Capcom 2
The Red Star
NBA Street 2
God Of War 1 and 2

Aside to some games having some problems, I also having the "scratch disk" where the PS2 is scratching the game disk. Any tips there? Any help on ripping and good burning? Thanks for the help and sorry if I post this on the wrong section and sorry for being a noob

I don't think you can burn the God of War games, as least not as easily as the majority of PS2 games. Both of those games are DVD-9 (or maybe one is DVD-5 or something) but if I'm not mistaken it has to do with how the DVD is layered or burned, or that its not your standard DVD.

Okey thanks for the info about God of War. I really dont think of burning it anyway. So I am currently downloading Red Star right now which is the majority of some members here said a great game. Is it safe to burn it in a CD-R? Since it's memory size is only about 500 something MB?

Actually you can burn GOW if you download a torrent that has the ISO that has been trimmed down (or whatever the terminology is).
All you need to search for is GOW DVD-5 and hope you get a good one. There are some of the DVD-5 versions that crash and some that were properly re-encoded (I think that's right) and play perfectly. I have the original disc but Swap Magic doesn't support dual-layer DVDs so I had to DL it to play it...
Good luck on that~

Use DVD Decrypter to backup originals and burn your isos, always burn at lows speeds 2x or 4x. Can't give you recommendations there are too much games you need to play so google some ps2 reviews. Don't remember if Red Star is a CD game too lazy to look for mine but just try it out, you would only be wasting a couple of cents on the disc.

I've never heard of any unique protection on God of War. I think this rumor stemmed from the fact that most people use Swap Magic to play backups, and as we know, it doesn't work with dual layers. I've never heard of the game doing anything unique with the second layer. I'm pretty sure if you use a more standard method of playing backups like a mod chip or ESR, than God of War as well as any dual layer burn will work fine.

Anyways I legally own both games, so I feel I can at least talk about those two. About whether or not this kind of talk is allowed here, that's up to Racket. It may be fine now that it's past generation talk, but at one point it probably wouldn't have been allowed.

Thanks for the clarify Mozgus. I know that I am a noob for not knowing that this kind of discussion is not allowed here.

Anyways, have any great game you can recommend to me? I am thinking of getting Katamari for fun purposes. Any suggestions for Kingdom Hearts like RPG?
