Yes, it's available for PC.MrEco wrote:I just bought this game off of Steam. It was a double pack actually. This and Breath of Death VII for $2.99 total.
Haven't played them yet, but judging from the trailer and community reaction they're suppose to be pretty good old school RPG's. Will probably seem even better since they're only $1.50 apiece really.

you should. It's an amazing game. It's so cheap and offers some really great story, fun and value for the cheap price tag.Gamerforlife wrote:I think I'm gonna download this and try it

I purchased it. It's pretty funny. I love those fourth wall breaking games and this game totally demolishes the fourth wall. I love hearing Cthulhu talk about "the player" or talking to the narrator. I also like the old school look and feel. It reminds me of those days playing Final Fantasy III on the Super Nintendo. I'm realizing more and more lately that I'm not much for modern games anymore. I think most, if not all of my favorite games this year are very retro flavored. Games like Lollipop Chainsaw, Dust: An Elysian Tail and 3DS/DsiWare games like Mario vs. Donkey Kong Minis March Again, Soul of Darkness and Dodogo. The combat music in Cthulu is great. My only gripe with the game is how you have to choose between two ability bonuses when you level up. I want to have my cake and eat it too, so I hate when a game asks me to pick one thing and sacrifice another. It's one of my pet peeves as a gamer, but I realize that it's a relatively minor complaintnoiseredux wrote:you should. It's an amazing game. Re: Cthulhu Saves the World (XBL Indie Games)
So my party is about level 35. I just got the ability to explore every part of the map, and I found a secret dungeon with fairly high level enemies. I wonder if I'm getting close to the end of the game. The writing and the jokes have been really good. I still hate the leveling system, but I've kind of resigned myself to it. I like how the game does away with the stuff that made these older rpgs annoying. You have total control over random encounters. You can initiate a fight at will from the menu, and when you win a certain number of battles you can explore the dungeon free of random encounters. Plus you can fast travel to towns, and save any time you want. I do have some gripes though, besides the leveling system
Many of the dungeons are horribly designed. Some of them have so many branching paths it becomes almost impossible not to get lost. This game has some seriously convoluted mazes. Many dungeons are full of paths that lead to dead ends or just lead back to a previously explored path. There is little craftmanship to the design of most of this game's dungeons. It just feels like a whole bunch of different paths just thrown together by a schizophrenic designer.
I also am not finding some of this game's combat quirks to really amount to anything. I have no idea how insanity affects enemies so I don't even worry about it anymore, and the game's combo system is practically a non factor in combat since by the time you get your combo high enough to do a powerful attack, the boss you're fighting is probably near death anyway. Although I did unlock a "Combo Master" ability for one of the party members that speeds up combo progression and might actually make combos useful for me. Though I've played so much of the game now it seems like too little too late. Combat in this game is pretty standard attack, attack, heal fare. It seems like they tried to add some originality to it, but the extra stuff they put in just has little effect on how combat plays out.
Overall though, I am enjoying the game very much for its nostalgic quality and the funny jokes. I'm also getting a lot of playtime out of this title for the paltry 80 pts I spent on it

the mazes are frustrating, though as you pointed out eventually the enemy encounters will stop. This is almost a slick way to force some grinding while exploring, but it's not relentless grinding. Pretty much just playing the game causes you to grind enough to stay at good levels.
The Insanity thing affects some enemies -- either fucking them up, or making them even stronger. It's a trial and error thing.
Who do you have in your party now? Which dungeon are you at?

Yeah, I don't like the trial and error thing with insanity. Funny thing though, the strongest sword I currently have for Cthulu right now is Cursed Sword, which automatically makes every enemy insane. So it'll be interesting to see how that works out. I think I'm slightly over leveled so I'm not having too much trouble so far.noiseredux wrote:the mazes are frustrating, though as you pointed out eventually the enemy encounters will stop. I'm in a factory level in Innsmouth. Right now I have October, Paws, Sharpe, Ember, Dacre, and Umi.
I'm having fun, despite some of my gripes. It's kind of addicting this game. I can sit down and not even notice two hours go by because I want to see what happens next. The references are cracking me up. I just killed an enemy called "horror writer" in a game about Cthulu. LOL. Some of the humor reminds me of Conker's Bad Fur Day the way the characters make fun of the makers of the game. The game takes me back to the hours I spent playing Final Fantasy III on the Super Nintendo when I was younger, especially with that cool soundtrack.

yeah the writing is amazing, especially if you're a fan of Lovecraft. That Cursed sword might not work out for you later. Just sayin'. There's some later enemies that you don't want to make insane.
I can't remember the order, have you already fought the Ape Princess? She was the hardest boss in the game in my opinion with Dagon being a close-ish second. (These aren't spoilers, I promise).
I feel like your party is pretty close to the party I stuck with for the rest of the game.
