Pokémon Crystal "Save File Corrupted"
So I recently replaced the battery in my old Crystal, and I've been playing it a lot since. I turned on my Gameboy Color last night and it said the save file was corrupted. I DO have a Mega Memory Card, but like an idiot I hadn't backed up the save yet since the battery is new. I backed up the corrupted file, made sure the battery was in place and restored it. I also tried leaving it on the Continue/New Game menu for 8 hours (apparently it works for some people) but it didn't work. Is there any way I can fix my save game?

Did you notice anything weird last time you played it/turned it off? Is it a dependable battery brand, that others who also have replaced their save battery have used with great results? Have you looked up any issues concerning other people that are similar to your problem, and see their resolution? Were those same people using the same brand as you?
Also, no need to bump a thread after just 1 or so hours, it's just annoying. It's better to do so after a 24 hour period.

It was the RadioShack brand, I assume they are at least decent.
I haven't found and resolutions other than the one I tried.
I bumped it after 25 hours.

I don't know what to tell you honestly besides get a new battery, maybe a different brand but idk.Lone Wanderer wrote:No.

Oh and sorry about that, and thanks for not coming off as an asshole about it as I'm sure I was sounding like.

It's fine, I figured you just didn't look closely. I'm not worried about getting the cartridge to work again, but rather the save file.brandman wrote:I don't know what to tell you honestly besides get a new battery, maybe a different brand but idk.Lone Wanderer wrote:No.

You'd figure a battery like the CR2025 would be fine, but honestly, everything Radio Shack is horrible quality. I definitely wouldn't buy a battery from them. You'll over pay for inferior quality. And that goes for any Radio Shack product. For future reference, you can get an Energizer CR2025 at an Auto Zone (or similar auto chain) for $5.
Since you replaced the battery, one problem to consider would be if the connections are good. But even if it lost connection, or the battery had low voltage, the save file would probably just be missing and not corrupt. It's a sad truth for retro gamers, but some times save files will just get corrupt. You might have just been unlucky enough to have it happen as a freak occurrence. One thing you should definitely do is make sure the cart contacts and the console's contacts are super clean. It's possible that dirty connections could cause the game to write a bad save file.
It might be possible that the battery is dying and that caused the save file to become corrupt. If you have a volt meter, check the voltage of the new battery. A new CR2025 should measure slightly over 3 volts.
Hopefully you didn't have too many hours on the save file, and it wont be too much of a headache to start over again, but that's probably what you're gonna have to do. It's interesting that people have said they left it on the start screen for 8 hours and that some how worked, but since you've already tried that and it hasn't worked, I don't see any other option.
If you can't get the corrupt save file to work again, here's my suggestions before starting over: Get a new battery, and a good brand name like Energizer. Make sure the connections are sound when installing the new battery. And most importantly, make sure the cart and console pins are super clean. Contact cleaner or rubbing alcohol and an old cotton t-shirt under a finger works great for cleaning a Gameboy cart (when it's out of the shell).
I know you were asking how to possibly get the corrupt save file working again, and this post doesn't help any in that department, but I just wanted to give you some tips to prevent it from happening again, whether you get the corrupt save working again or in the event you do have to start over. From one gamer to another, I feel your pain. I've had this happen to me a few times before, and it's the absolute worst. If you happen to find a way to get it working, be sure to let us know how you did it.
