I see. I had been going for 80K (x2) since going for all 4 wasn't going to happen for me.

So what is the trick to get the extra ships (that you can cancel their bullets for big points). What triggers them? Wiping out the smaller enemies first? Just moving upward on the screen?

I just did what the demo did on the 5 minute superplay. Taking out the enemy groups as fast as possible staying near the top of the screen, using bombs for maximum effect (and points) and timing their appearance in such a way you're anticipating good spots on the ground where you can position yourself good for the missile spammers so there's nothing in the way that can take away those points (such as gray squares which take more hits to destroy, no "bomb" powerups nearby to take them out too early). If you watch it, you'll notice that by the final boss, there's a special type of enemy that is past the 3rd set of spammers that are pink and disappear and reappear firing spread-bullet patterns.

Their missiles are worth way more pts than those 80000 gray pods could be.

Well, STGT is over. Not sure if/when I'll get into X-Multiply very much as I'm a bit shmupped out. I hit my goals, though!

dsheinem wrote:I am just looking to improve my ranking at the end over the last two years. I finished 104/190 (actual people playing) last year and 157/199 the year before that, so I hope to improve a bit more again this year. Cracking the top half is the goal for this year, but we'll see what games come along...

Oh, and I also want to beat noise.

I placed 97/223. I also beat noise by a healthy margin (he didn't play the last week, though :? ). I was also glad to see Attack Ships on Fire place in the top 30 (29/42) this year, which was better than both previous finishes (28/33 and 33/35). All of that signals improvement :)

Hats off to Team Coffer as well - mjm, fox, and exed really kicked ass! Your 11th place finish this year means that, if you stick together, you should easily be a top 10 threat next year.

I'd rank my most to least favorite of this year's games as:

1. SSS
2. Espgaluda
3. Strikers 1999
4. Salamander 2
5. V-V

All of them were new to me in that I played them each for the first time in this tourney. That alone is a reason to keep coming back :)

Wow, 57/223 and 11/42 against some of the best. Good job Mjm/Noise/Fox/Dun/Fvg/Deca (he's not here on RB is he?)

18 points from top 10 :x

I enjoyed it too, thanks all for suggesting that we'd take the month off here. All those games were new to me too, and the 5-minute score attack is a heck of a great shmup gametype, I picked up on that right away!

I ended up 60th overall (I think). 4th on our team since I missed the last week. I couldn't figure it out, plus frustrations got too high, so I just said hell with it. Sorry, guys. Thanks for the help, E.E.; I was just too dumb to get it to work. Blegh, emulation.

Not a problem. Sadly, you weren't the only one who had issues with the game.

Yeah, w/your no show Fox, I passed you by one place to finish 59th. I feel good about my performance, but on all counts, your V-V and Strikers runs were superb and you were def. the better shmupper. Nice job.

Hopefully we can form a racket super team next year, have submissions from all (7) members all (5) weeks and really push each other to get better.

I know a few times I was sorta, "eh, that's pretty good, i'll submit this." Then i'd see Exed or Fox pass it and i'd want to hop back on. I added 300K to my SSS score after getting a nudge from Exed.

My only real regret is not getting more time with Salamander, that is a game I know somewhat well.

Hey we all did well, IMO. You also have to figure in that I had at least 10+ hrs. with all but EspGaluda and SSS. Plus you had technical difficulties the one week.

That's how I felt with S2. I posted the 860K+ score, but knew I could do better; so I ground away and produced that 1mil+ score before the end.

Yeah, it'd be good to have full submissions from all members, but I know that we've all got lives of our own to juggle, and this was just a fun thing thrown in the mix.

So, good work to all, and Gratz to the guys on Attack Ships on Fire for making a solid improvement.

Well, since STGT has taught me to us MAME, I don't think I'm gonna miss any games for SotM anymore. I'm liking this one;might have to track down a Sat-J copy of the compilation this is on when I can. This game runs flawlessly on our computer.

Better check those stats again you guys; Dex updated them and apparently did some score pruning from certain people -- as a result Team Coffer finished #10 overall! Great job guys, I'm prouder than ever that we could stack so well with the forum's best!

How cool would that be to have a super RB team?

Glad you improved on SSS. That is what it's all about, when we do our thing here and when we play over there, nudging each other to do better. Maybe as we continue to play these here, we'll do better next year!
