Never though about what we'd call the original 3DS from now on... I guess we can't call it the phat, can we?EllertMichael wrote:My hands definitely feel cramped during longer sessions on the o3DS ()

It's a good thing I sold you that 3DS and got the XL instead.EllertMichael wrote:This seems to me to be the biggest benefit. My hands definitely feel cramped during longer sessions on the o3DS (ZenErik wrote:My hand no longer feels cramped when using the d-pad.) especially on games that use the shoulder buttons a lot. SM3DL is taking me weeks because I find I can only play it in short spurts.

Very very true. As long as it's a 3DS XL Lite.EllertMichael wrote:Well, I certainly don't regret it! I got it for a great price! and honestly I'm not planning on getting an XL anytime soon... Maybe when the next revision is announced I'll buy your XL

Honestly, as an upgrade to the 3DS I don't think it's really worth it. If you didn't own the console at all and were looking to get one, I'd definitely say to get it though. I just doesn't warrant the investment as an upgrade.

It's not only worth it, they should stop selling the original model. The XL makes it look like crap in every regard.alienjesus wrote:Honestly, as an upgrade to the 3DS I don't think it's really worth it. never owned the little one.
preordered it, and currently playing NSMB2.
I never really liked the first 3ds. At the kiosks, I never got the full 3d effect. I guess it takes a certain viewing angle. This one too. But it does look more sexy on that huge top screen.
But in my opinion why not have both.
we are collectors/gamers, we want them all anyways.

I did the $100 trade in thing. I like the matte finish better than the shiny 3DS finish and the bigger screens are really nice, enhances the gaming experience especially since I do all my handheld gaming at home.

Finally got to try one out at Target, and it is so much better in person than you could gather from online. The color (blue at least) looks way better in person, I not liking the 2 colors based on pics, but in person the blue is very nice. The screens are HUGE and so nice, NSMB2 looked amazing on it. The overall feel was more solid and a higher quality piece. I will be picking on up in the next couple weeks for sure.

Re: "Upgrade" to 3DS XL or not?
I upgraded and I absolutely love it. Everything looks better. DS games look great if you play it at the original size (ie not scaled). I always playing it like that on the original was too small.
The biggest thing I like though is the d-pad placement. I can actually reach it and still hold the system comfortably. I NEVER used the d-pad on the original but now I use it all the time.
Plus the battery lasts longer.
I got the red and am going get a vinyl sticker of the Virtual Boy logo to put on the top
