True, but the Wii forces cube games to play in wide screen unless you bother to go and change the setting. This stretches 'Cube games out of their native resolution when you play in component.

The Wii is a cheap way to get 'Cube games in component but it's not quite the same as the real deal.
Hasn't been my experience. GC games don't recognize the Wii's widescreen setting. GC games have to be set widescreen in-game versus Wii games which read the system setting.

That's a TV setup issue actually. Wii doesn't use true widescreen, it basically compresses the image so that it looks 'normal' when it's stretched out.

You can always set your TV to display in 4:3 pillarbox mode for gamecube games, though it's admittedly a bit of a pain to switch back and forth all the time.

I always thought there was something fishy about the Wiis widescreen mode.
I wonder how the WiiU will handle that when running Wii games...

Hmm, I actually didn't know that about the Wii's widescreen set up. My current TV is actually my first widescreen TV so I never knew it was supposed to be done any differently.
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

Same here. I set the TV to wide and the Wii to wide and was done with it.

To be fair: New technology is scary and bad.
