Its not ending any time soon. And it probably won't for years from now. Truthfully, the real question is how quickly physical media will disappear. I have to wonder...

Blah, blah, blah. We've all heard this before. Just like PC gaming has been dead for the last 10 years. Console gaming will probably need to change a little, but it's not going anywhere. There are plenty of gamers that need more in-depth games than what most mobile games and app-based games can offer.

Smart TVs. Lol.

Yup, people will totally be on board with the idea of having to buy two entirely separate TVs just to play two major console libraries.

All of this has been discussed a million times before anyway.

How long does it take you to download 8.5GB or more? Do you have a better than 10Mbps connection that actually gets you close to your speed?
For how f'n slow internet access is in the states and how big the game market is, media cannot disappear or sales will too.
 (FC, AVFC, NES, SFC x2, SNES, N64, GC x2, Wii x2)*(G&W x7, GB, GBpocket, GBASP, DS-L x2)
(GEN, SS x3, DC x3)*(PCE-Duo)*(Xbox:500GB)*(NGCDZ, NGPC)*(PS1, PStwo, PS3:160GB, PSP.3K)

I agree with this. I live in a rural area where only dial-up and satellite internet is available. I currently tether off of my cellphone, but the connection is still slow and is lost during downloads, messing them up. Dial-up, of course, is way too slow. You only have a certain amount of threshold on satellite, then your service slows down. Not to mention the latency problems. That eliminates online gaming altogether. Console gaming will be around for a long time.

Like I said, how quickly. I doubt it'll be in the next generation or two... but four or five from now? It might be a completely different story.

There's also the angle of what the primary customer base might be.

Enough Americans lack a sufficient connection for there to be a niche market to cater to them...however, there are many many millions who -do- have a good connection.

If the viable customer base is large enough, and the benefits/profits good enough, I don't doubt the primary market will become online only even if it means leaving some people out in the cold.

The way I've always looked at it... Steam does pretty damn well for all these people with bad connections. Y'know, I waited the two and a half days it took for TF2 to download, and was damn happy getting my ass kicked because I was playing with a controller.
