Looks visibly ok to me. Do you live, or was it obtained from somewhere that has static buildup issues? Maybe it got static zapped? I have dealt with a handful of carts for various systems that look fine but didn't want to work. Perhaps if you're adventurous and have the means you might remove the capacitor and make sure it is still ok. I don't see any evidence of leaking though.

There are other people that have an opinion too. Wait and see if anyone else has an idea.

Thanks for the reply!!

I am not too sure if I do or don't live in that kind of area...Utah lol

I had an earthworm jim 1 and couldn't get it to work so just before I was going to send it back I bi$ch slapped it hard and then it worked..

I don't know a whole lot about removing that but I am extremely adventurous! I'll wait a bit for other replies and see if I can find some love on youtube on how to do that. Thanks again!

No problem! That's kinda our thing, helping people game like it's 1995.
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

I added another photo that may reveal some leakage. I don't know exactly what that is but off to the right and left side seems to have some kind of residue that is shiny and seems to rub off. I did qtip it with light water and didn't really want to come off. What do you think about the newer pic?

I still see damage on the contacts. Maybe my eyes suck?

I really hope it is as that is usually easily repairable but I have tried cleaning them with alcohol solution with distilled water and qtip. When doing this i removed no dirt/grime.

I haven't cleaned it with anything else as online there is sooooo much that people say they did and not sure the best. Any suggestions?

Lol, I was about to link you to a decent ebay auction but apparently this game is about 100 times more expensive than I remember it being.

...and to think, I threw away my copy of this game 6 years ago.

And this is why I must get this bad boy working lol. Wonder what the cost to restore it would be?

I dunno. Depends on the damage. If it's capacitors, not a whole lot. If the contacts need to be repaired, I dunno.
