I know it isn't exactly legal, but I would prefer Ripley to have a peaceful death at home and I then bury her in my backyard. That or place her in a pet cemetery.

I hear you on the pet death thing. I've lost two dogs over the years. It's like losing a family member.
I'm not sure you'd be dealing with a legal issue having your pooch pass away at home and bury her there. It's not like it'd ever be a homicide issue. Caninicide unlikely exists. And even if someone suspects animal cruelty, are you gonna move anytime soon where someone potentially would dig up the backyard and find her? I can't really see it as an issue. A pet cemetery would be neat but probably expensive (no clue though).

Worried about the day I have to put Ripley down as there really aren't many options with her skin cancer.

I don't want some vet tech just dumping her in a pile of dead animals and have them hauled off to who knows where.

My vet gave me the option of getting the body back, getting ashes back, or them disposing of the ashes themselves. I took the "get ashes back" option and will plan to bury them with a little funeral of sorts (especially for the benefit of my 3 year old) near where we buried our horse in April. A peaceful death at home sounds like a nice idea in theory, but I don't know that they can send you home with the lethal drugs, which I believe are administered via IV. i also understand that occasionally the euthanasia drugs don't "go down" or get processed as peacefully as they are supposed to and it can be very painful to watch, have to hold animal down, etc. I'd rather not risk that happening just for the sake of doing it at home.

I want to be there when she passes, and I don't. As you mentioned, not all animals go away peacefully. They should after being heavily sedated, but it doesn't always go as planned. Plus there's the issue of animal waste leaving the body during death.

Nobody wants to, pet or family members, but if that's the end goal you'd like to get, you probably should face the reality of it... easier said than done of course. Godspeed~

Did that too with my little pet rat. I just didn't bury her. In fact, she's right next to me in a nice little pot. Lid sealed shut with superglue. Sometimes I still take the pot, kiss it, and say something to her. I know it's stupid, but I can't help it. She was such a cuty... ^^

Shouldn't be a problem to let her go to sleep at home.

Once she gets that second injection it'll go so fast, she'll be gone before you know it...

Not so much a frown, but more of a disappointment: Tried a new recipe that was labeled as a main course, but dudes, a rice pilaf with all the trimmings is best as a side dish. Basamati irce, coconut milk, almonds, onion, serrano pepper, bell pepper, spices; doesn't fill the stomach for long.

As long as you don't have asshole neighbors or bury your pet near your well it is ok to bury them in your yard. I have buried many of my furry family over the years and never had a issue. Some vets will come to your home so the pet can pass at home with family. If you bury ripley at home there are some very nice tombstones for pets on the internet i belive you can even get them with a picture on it as well.

Best news I have heard in a while, my old boss - the one who was trained by someone I trained and threatened to fire me because I did my job better than my coworkers, was fired today for under-performance. Per my Director, who was there for the firing, she apparently slandered myself and my coworker who use to be under her heavily, and said that I was trying to get her fired since she started. My Director simply laughed at it and told me "If you wanted to get her fired, you would have figured it out within the first few weeks. Now get back to work."
