Exactly. It was still a great thing to particpate in by far, and I thought all the picks were pretty solid. Got to play the 3rd game in the Strikers 1945 series, one that doesn't get a lot of love from Toaplan, a great easy to get into Cave game, a solid Salamander sequel, and a pretty sweet new thing (to me) called the caravan. Even if it is just they way they act towards anything over there, I'm just glad it isn't here, it would get old after a while.

So I like this game now that I have it up and running, can hit almost everything up to the last boss and not get hit (or only get hit once or twice)....but I am getting to the last boss usually with 50 some seconds on the clock and shooting him as often as I think I can - but he won't go down before time runs out. Any tips?

Biggest tip I can give -- make sure you're FULLY powered up, and use your backside on him. (press Speed Change/XF2 button). As long as your powered up and get hit, you only go down one level every couple of seconds with each hit until you're at the first one until you die. The exhaust will do damage, I'm not kidding, just SIT on him. If you select 5 minute mode at the title screen and let the game sit there, you'll see a superplay where the exhaust strategy works on other enemies.

This is my best so far; I hope I can do better. Really liking the caravan type now!

Wow. Your exhaust is an offensive weapon; I've never heard of such a thing.

Much better now!

Ok, so this game is just like Super Star Soldier, but it goes back further than that. I have the original Star Soldier on the NES, and it helps out here as far as knowing the hidden bonuses.

- After the first boss (the large blue ship), Alpha symbols will appear (similar to the "Z"s on SS). They will always be hidden on the far left and the right sides of the screen. When you hear a "clink" sound, keep firing on the side your on and expose and destroy them for a point bonus that starts at 500 and goes all the way to 80000 (the very last one)

- I haven't done it yet, but the orange ring-like boss can be destroyed before it forms for 80000 (just like the "Caesar" enemy on SS)

- Finally, before both bosses, there will be a set of gray metallic round base-like objects. If you can hit and destroy both of them at the same time, you'll get 80000 for that too (just like the green/blue eyes on SS). Note that there are 2 sets before the final boss, the first one set is spread apart a bit wider so you may need to move your ship further back to hit them.

Also, be sure to line up under the missile-spamming enemies just right, so that your front shot is under one row of them and your side shot can get the other row.... tons of points, about 100k per appearance if timed right, you should get about 7 of them to appear per game if you destroy enemy sets fast enough.

When using the exhaust strategy on the final boss, make sure he goes to the bottom of the screen first, then get above him and hit that XF2 button as fast as you can, and make sure to avoid its missiles if they are still on screen when it blows up, you can lose another life.

Extra time and lives remaining equals bonus points, I've been getting around 30 seconds worth and on this game I didn't lose a single life, just enough exhaust.

Air Zonk does this. I know there are others too, I just can't think of them at the moment.

I watched the 5 min demo again and I saw a few more things -

You can somehow get in the middle of the orange ring boss if you know the exact height it comes together, and if you destroy it fast enough, it's 80000.

Also, you can go right under the halfway boss (the blue one) without touching it and keep moving left and right and it won't even hit you, and you can destroy it faster, which is good for your ending time bonus.

Plus, if you get rid of enemy sets fast enough (and destroy both ring bosses before they form with the bomb items), you can get 1-2 more missile spammers before the final boss, but try to get one of the two "at a time" bonuses if you can.

I get both orange ring formation 80K bonuses, I shoot the many bullets guys for big points, I usually get the 80K shoot both sedentary pods bonus....and i'm at 1.39mil.

What is the end boss bonus worth? I'm miffed as to what else i'm missing. I hit stage 2 at about 600K, and end at 1.2-1.4 - is it like 1mil for the boss kill or what?

The 2nd loop through, after the midboss.
