Should I get an original NES

Post by someone3760 »

Please list the pros and cons of an original NES. I want to get one, and want some information about it. Thanks!

Pros:
-Large and varied game library that has plenty of gems.
-Nintendo first-party titles (Super Mario Bros. 1-3, Zelda 1 & 2, Metroid, Kid Icarus, Donkey Kong, Rad Racer)
-Cheap and easy to collect for.
-Lots of accessories to play with.

Cons:
-Those damn blinkies that the NES is notorious for. This can be fixed by cleaning your games and replacing the 72-pin connector inside.

Just ask yourself these questions. If the answer to any of them is YES, then you should get a NES:

1. Are you alive?
2. Did you read question 1?

I recommend it, I never had one as a kid but I did play it a lot at friend's houses. I figured the systems were such a pain (with the whole blinking light) that I wasn't going to bother collecting it, plus I'd like maybe 15 games, so why mess with it.

Well once I figured out how to clean the games and got a system at a garage sale, it was all down hill from there.. I now have more games for that system than any other I own. Who knew there were so many good games!

Pros:
-it has some PC Engine related games like Castlevania, Double Dragon II, 1943, Tiger Heli, Faxanadu, Dragon Spirit, Bubble Bobble, Life Force, Gradius, Stinger, Star Soldier, Starship Hector, Star Force, Xexyz, Bonk's Adventure, Adventure Island, Kung Fu, Klax, Jackie Chan's Action Kung Fu, Bomberman, Legacy of the Wizard, Afterburner, Fantasy Zone, Ninja Gaiden, River City Ransom, Hit the Ice, Galaga, Xevious, etc.
-the controller is similar to the PC Engine/Turbografx-16 controller.
-the RF switch will work on a PC Engine/Turbografx-16.
-you can use a PC Engine/Turbografx-16 AC adapter to power up an NES with.

Cons:
-all of these games (or sequels) are much better on the PC Engine/Turbografx-16.
-the d-pad, buttons and feel of the NES controller is not as good as on the PC Engine/Turbografx-16 controller
-the NES does not have a HuCard slot to play PC Engine or Turbografx-16 games with.
-the NES does not have a CD drive to play PC Engine CD or Turbografx-CD games with.

Conclusion: Get a PC Engine or Turbografx-16 instead of an NES
