Theres only one company who currently makes pinball machines, STERN. All the other companies got out about 20 years ago because most places dont want to spend 5k on a machine that cost an arm and leg to repair. STERN still sells a fair amount of machines, but no where near what sales use to be. There is a great documentary on this called Special When Lit that is on netflix. I highly recommend it.

I love pinball and plan on buying a Jurassic Park or Dr Who pin in the future. A Joust pinball is my ultimate, but I will never own one. Id also love a Twilight Zone... Chupon I am insanely jealous
I've been meaning to watch Special When Lit...
Man, I've got a hankering to play High Speed now.

Nice.

Do pinball machines have "regulated balls" (go ahead, laugh)? I've always wondered as they have always seemed to be the same size throughout the years.

Tell me that plays some of the soundtrack by Queen. They would air that all the time on channel 62 when I was a kid here in KC.

Careful, Pinball Machines have a habit of breeding, 1 becomes 2 becomes 5 becomes 11...

"Special When Lit" is also up on Hulu for free. Very cool documentary full of eccentric and interesting people.

I got to play with their Wizard of Oz table at E3. Seems pretty strong!

Special When lit is great, I certainly can echo the recommendation of it!

I could have sworn Oz was STERN. Glad to see I was wrong.

Can't really afford a new Stern pin as they sell for about $7K in the box starting. I do have room for at least two more pins though. Right now I'm on the lookout for a Paragon, and a Black Hole. Both early 80s pins. I've played some of the newer pins by Stern. You know the 2003 - current. They are amazing and I'd love to own any of them but the charm of the early 80s pins from when I was growing up really has a hold of me.

I'm talking about when pinball was all about high score. Not as much questing and objective based pinball. Don't get me wrong, I'm happy with how pins have developed but not having a DMD screen or too many moving parts just seams more authentic to me.

My two favorite pins I own are from the early 1980s. Actually made in Italy. Great style, colors and a few bells.

I've had games from the the 60s to the 90s and at this point the real collectible titles of the DMD era just go for far too much nowadays.
