Whoa man, whoa! Ocarina of Time is practically A Link to the Past in 3D. And Majora's Mask may not be your run of the mill Zelda game but it is a very enjoyable and unique experience. Don't be hatin'.
I played through LOZALTTP multiple times. I played Ocarina once, and except for the really memorable end of game stuff once you reach Ganon, the game didn't have much of an impact on me. It's just didn't have the magic of the 2D games. None of the modern Zelda games I've played do (Twilight Princess, Skyward Sword)
That's probably got more to do with your age than the actual quality of the games.

Possibly, but I remember thinking at the time that Ocarina felt incredibly short for a Zelda game, and the world felt very small compared to 2D Zeldas I had played.

I should point out that I was never impressed with Mario 64 either. There's something about the old Marios and Zeldas that doesn't translate well to 3D for me. Even Super Mario 3D Land on the 3DS. I thought it was a good game, but it didn't knock my socks off. As 2011 platformers go, I had a lot more fun with Sonic Generations.

Eh, but I always like Sonic better than Mario. Maybe it is a bias

Did you enjoy NSMB (any of them I guess)? Just curious.

I'll probably catch flak for it, but I agree with you about OoT. It's not bad, but it feels a bit more generic, and middle-of-the-road to me. I probably prefer Majora's Mask and Wind Waker to Link to the Past, though; but that's probably because I didn't play LttP until it was re-released on the GBA.

I tend to only really like Nintendo games when they break from tradition.

Need more love for Link's Awakening out there.

OoT's a victim of its own success. Kinda hard to appreciate how new it felt when it came out when so many games since have copied its formula so directly. 'Course that argument only really applies to those who've picked up OoT recently and left unimpressed.

I'm obviously in the minority anyway, but I did play it when it came out, and got an N64 to do so because everyone I knew was playing it. I got bored with it by the Shadow Temple and never actually beat it until I got the GC Collector's Edition. I'm definitely not saying it's a bad game, by any means. I just don't feel it's all that spectacular in the grand scheme of gaming, or even within the Zelda series.

It's hard for me to explain to people why I feel it's so painfully uninteresting, when it's such a popular game. Most of my feelings on the matter will be disregarded by serious fans of the game.
To be fair, though, I probably would have felt the same way about MM as I do about OoT if I had played it when it was released.

I actually really want to play that. I downloaded the DX version for my 3DS, but I kind of want to play the original version and own the actual cartridge. I saw some stuff on youtube about Link's Awakening and thought, "There's my Zelda." The game looks fun

I decided to give Shenmue another playthrough. Otherwise, I play Animal Crossing for Gamecube--I started a new town early this summer and it's still as addictive as ever!

As for the Zelda Argument, Oracle of Seasons and Ages are by far the two best Zelda's I have ever played. So compelling!
