/Which DQ games should I play.
My job is completely ridiculous and consists of me sitting in closets for hours at a time. So about a week ago I started playing the original Dragon Quest (the GBC version), drawing maps and not reading FAQs (for the most part). I'm at the final dungeon, about to beat the Dracolord and I'm wondering if the second game is worth it to play.
I have tried to play 3 and 9 and didn't really enjoy either. My appreciation of the first one may change that, but I like it more for it's vagueness, non-linearity, and shortness. So I don't know if I'll actually enjoy the other games.
So, should I play through any of the others? I have access to 1-6 (my 9 got stolen).
Should I Play Dragon Quest 2?

Probably not?
If you didn't like 3 or 9, I don't think you're going to like 2. The second game of the series has some technical improvements over the first (you have a party, the world map is much bigger, there's more you have to do) but I didn't think it's fun. It's definitely the worst Dragon Quest game I've played (the first 7 and Monsters).

For OP, if you didn't like 3, you may not like 2. Though maybe playing them in order you may like 3+ better.

Re: Should I Play Dragon Quest 2?
DQII is far more non-linear than most of the other DQ games. It's very easy to get lost and wander about until you stumble into an area with high-leveled monsters and get destroyed. But if those are the kinds of things you'd like, then by all means give it a shot. DQII also has the bonus of being directly connected to the first game in terms of story and setting.
Of course, if you like non-linear, then I would much rather suggest Dragon Quest VI. Of the more "modern" DQ games, it definitely has the most exploration going for it, and the game is pretty darn long too, considering it was for the SNES. But at least DQVI has more polish than DQII, making it a far better experience, IMO.

Re: Should I Play Dragon Quest 2?
2 is certainly one of the toughest DQs and one of the least fair. I thought the GBC remake of 1&2 was great, but it doesn't make 2 any easier. By the way, DQ Monsters 2 is absolutely amazing. Anyone who says otherwise is just wrong.Nemoide wrote:Probably not?

Here are my thoughts from my attempted play-through last year.

I'd say skip it, although the GBC version might actually be playable.

I must say, though, that beating DQ2 is incredibly satisfying.
