Well, you already said earlier that everything this gen sucks. So, if Shenmue 3 comes out I'm assuming it'll have to be in the next generation? Perhaps on the Dreamcast 2?

Sleeping Dogs is fucking badass - the critics seem to agree (solid combat, shooting, and driving, plus great voice overs, what's not like?)

Yeah, seriously. Sleeping Dogs is awesome! Much more than just another mediocre GTA clone. It's so much more than that.

COD is one of the best four player party games I've ever played...
I'll also be completely honest.

Any of the Bomberman, Mario Kart or Mario Party games absolutely destroys anything like Call of Duty.
I don't have any gripes with the first one or even black ops but the new is exactly the same as the other nothing changed period. Yet everyone still supports and buy the same rehashed crap over and over.
ABSOLUTELY agree!

Now, which Bomberman game should I play? I have Bomberman (NES), Bomberman (PC Engine), Bomberman '93, Bomberman '94, Mega Bomberman, Super Bomberman, Super Bomberman 2, Super Bomberman 3, Super Bomberman 4, Super Bomberman 5, Bomberman GB, Neo Bomberman, Bomberman 64, Bomberman 64 2, Saturn Bomberman, Bomberman Touch, Bomberman Land Wii, Ultra Bomberman...

Usually I prefer Bomberman '93, Saturn Bomberman or Ultra Bomberman.
I never said Bomberman wasn't good, all I said was CoD is a good splitscreen game for a small party.

I find it interesting that die-hard Shenmue fans tend to pair the phrase "GIVE US SHENMUE III" with "I WANNA KICK LAN DI'S ASS". The thing that MADE Shenmue for me was the realization that Yu Suzuki was baiting you -- the words of wisdom which Ryo constantly ignores (including his father's own "Keep friends, those you love, close to you"), the ludicrousness of a practicing Buddhist (Ryo has a Buddhist altar in his house) PRAYING for REVENGE (for those uninitiated to the philosophy, a good Buddhist would NEVER do such a thing), and above all, the fact that the plot and world of the game leave open SO MANY alternatives to the game's main storyline.

Ryo Hazuki's tendency to ignore beautiful women has become something of a joke in the gaming community, but gamers aren't seeing how much deeper the roots of the problem go. He leaves his friends because of his quest. He doesn't finish school because of his quest. He can't hold a job because of his quest. He spends all of his brother-figure's dough and leaves him behind because of his quest. People close to him get kidnapped or injured because of his quest. And most important of all, he is becoming his own enemy because of his quest. Before Lan Di kills Ryo's father, he mentions the man Ryo's father killed in Meng Cun. Lan Di's is a revenge story. Ryo's is a revenge story. Xiuying compares Ryo to her brother Ziming, who ended up becoming one of the Chi You Men... the organization that Lan Di is a high-ranking member of.

Not to knock you at all, because I know everybody will find different reasons to enjoy any game, but I honestly don't understand how people could stay fascinated with the "let's kick Lan Di's ass" element, since to me the game always seems to paint that as a shallow fool's errand. Personally, the intrigue of Shenmue is in observing how this full, living, breathing world reacts to a character who is becoming his own enemy, as well as the cultural significance of everything going on (the 80's were a time of great cultural change as many parts of Asia were growing increasingly more Americanized -- the difference between leather-jacketed, soda-guzzling Ryo and his father is as stunning as the difference between Hong Kong and Guilin. I should also mention... "He shall appear from a far eastern land across the sea..." y'know what's also far east of China? America).

I think it says alot about gamers that one of the most demanded sequels is to a series like Shenmue that delivers so little up front, but offers so much upon deep reflection... however, I DO NOT understand the majority of its fanbase one bit.

EDIT: Also, I just realized: Ryo is holding and obsessing over a mirror, yet he is unable to reflect on what he's becoming. SYMBOLIC IRONY. :o

this thread makes me sort of ashamed that I've played less than an hour of Shenmue. I watched Game Sack's episode about it last night, and was kind of like 'damn, I'd probably love this game.'
