Shining in the Darkness Emulation

Post by redmachus »

So, I've been trying to track down a working Shining in the Darkness rom for some time now, with little luck. Everytime I find one, it always has the three save spots filled, and give the cursed music when you try to delete them. Anyone else have this problem? Anyone know where I can get a rom that actually works? I'm running Genesis Plus on an Intel Mac, if that makes any difference. And yes, I've got the actual game cart.

That sounds like a problem with your emulator. Saved games usually don't come with roms, they're saved in a seperate file. Mess for instance puts my saves in '/home/hatta/.mess/nvram/genesis/Shining in the Darkness () (English) [!].nv'.

See if you can find where your emulator puts its saves and delete it. That should let you start fresh. If that doesn't work, SDLMESS has an OS X port. It would be strange if several different places had the same broken rom.

I've tried a couple of different emulators, with a number of different roms, all with the same result. I also tried wiping out the saves, but to no avail. Either I'm missing something, or there are a lot of bad roms out there.

I believe Gens Plus uses .SRM save files. Wherever you have configured to store them, make sure there are no Shining in the Darkness save game files. When you load a ROM with no .SRM file, the game acts as though there are no saved games (because there is no data to say otherwise). If that still doesn't work, try using the Fusion emulator, however, keep it in a completely different directory as the other emulators you have tried. If that doesn't work, I have no idea what you are doing.

Wiping the save files doesn't work. I can wipe the .sav files, go back into the rom, try to start a new game, and all of the slots are full. Even if I try to delete the slots within the game, it won't erase them. I've tried this with three seperate emulators now, with multiple roms gotten from multiple sites. I'm fairly certain at this point that it's the roms themselves, not an emulation problem. Which leaves me with trying to find one that works.

It shouldn't be that hard to track down a working rom for SinD. You usually shouldn't have any .srm files with it when you download it. It sounds like an emulator problem to me.

I've tried it with both Generator and Genesis Plus, which I've never had any other problems with. Just this one game. Am I the only one with this problem?

Like I already said... download Fusion. Google for "shining in the darkness rom". Download from the first site on the list. Run Fusion, load up the rom, and play.

I am encountering the same problem. I too am using Genesis Plus, which is works wonderfully but Shining in the Darkness never works properly. At the suggestion of spiritplx i looked for Fusion, but it only works on windows. This creates a problem for us mac users.

I still haven't figured it out, but it's nice to know I'm not the only one with this problem. Lately I've just been emulating it on my DC, but it would be nice if someone much smarter than me figured this out.
