Ok... The game is beautiful, the play is exciting and fun but I can't get the scoring down at all. My best score is 17 million ish... And that was pretty much by accident. Only been at it for a day so... Hopefully I figure this out soon

Getting better... Finally starting to get comfortable with the mechanics of the scoring. Had my best run by far tonight. It's been the first night I've had to just pound through the first couple boards repeatedly. Lots of restarts but I think I've got it figured out. Scored this run on my first actual one credit attempt.

I realize I'm pretty much talking to myself here but im ok with that...

Last score I'm gonna post until I top 100,000,000. I think that's a realistic goal as I get more comfortable with the scoring system. I feel like its taken me a significantly longer time to figure this one out than it did with deathsmiles. I think I like this more though. It's a lot tougher. A simple slip up and millions of points vanish.

So heres my last run of the night

79,179,400 - slash - type 2 - stage 3(boss)

I've been reading your posts and seeing the improvement.

I just popped it in for the first time today and am struggling to figure out the scoring...only about 5 million on stage 1 and dying out at stage 2 boss around 7 million. No idea what i'm doing yet...

Glad to know I'm not the only one. Skates post about one credit to learn the controls and then the next to score 60+ million made me wonder if I was missing something. Its complicated and ive made a ton of runs before I can say I think I actually understand the scoring. I'm posting pretty consistent numbers now. I can't beat the third boss yet in one credit, but when I do I think I'll jump the 100,000,000 million mark. There is a lot of gold I'm wasting everytime I die at that point.

Basically u have to figure out how to use your orb and katana shots before you'll start scoring bonus points. I got distracted last night when I loaded the game and when I looked back at the tv, the game had cycled into a tutorial mode since I never hit start. I think I watched for ten minutes. It confirmed some of what I had figured out and gave me a beter understanding of how and when to use my different shots. U should definately watch the tutorial. It was a huge help since the crazy cave scoring gimmic is pretty new to me. I bought deathsmiles a month ago as my first cave game. Love how each one seems to be different

Not that you're doing this Beatnix, but the only thing when you "restart" mid-game is that you can no longer save your replay nor have the score go to any kind of leaderboard.

It's a neat feature to restart the second level with what you brought from the first, but I personally didn't write down any of those scores.

I constantly quit and started over though to be able to ace the first board with a pretty decent score.

I also had to watch the demo like three times (was my first CAVE shooter)

I didn't realize about the restarting not saving data right away, but eventually realized that once you restart you couldnt save the data. I agree that it's a neat feature. However, I was restarting with the purpose of figuring out what the hell I was doing, so I wasn't worried about score. But it's cool how many little details Cave has obviously thought through in their games.

However, with all that said, My posted scores are all one credit runs and on my leaderboard.

Each stage you complete makes a huge difference in score, since the end-of-stage bonus from score items is huge after each level.

As far as scoring well after a couple runs, It helps a lot that I use the same arcade stick for all my NAOMI, Dreamcast, PS2, Saturn, and 360 Shmups. I like being used to the same arcade stick, and button mapping the games so that the controls are similar for most of them. I'll have to sit back down with this game now that I -finally- have an HDTV.

retro: My best score (with a pic) is still on the previous page; you've got my 2nd best score on the leader board.

Consoles: I have too much stuff
Arcade: No seriously, I have too much stuff. Someone grab a shovel and dig me out of my basement.

I am yet to own a good stick for any of my new system. Not sure if I want one or not... Probably gonna get one eventually but it's not on my priority list.

Finally beat boss 3 tonight and as predicted it pushed me over the 100,000,000 mark. It was a great run. Didn't lose a life until boss 3, but lost two right away... Haven't played that far enough to have a good feel for the patterns and really choked but still got through and scored a few points on level 4 before dying.

Bummer is that I was at my buddies house so I don't have this score saved on my own leader boards. So I'll have to do it again. But... Here she is, played on slash
