What about Bonk? That's such a fun platformer and yes, you need Ninja Spirit.
 (FC, AVFC, NES, SFC x2, SNES, N64, GC x2, Wii x2)*(G&W x7, GB, GBpocket, GBASP, DS-L x2)
(GEN, SS x3, DC x3)*(PCE-Duo)*(Xbox:500GB)*(NGCDZ, NGPC)*(PS1, PStwo, PS3:160GB, PSP.3K)

Sure, the Bonk games are good. I just like the other games I listed first better. :)

Bonk's Adventure: -really fun and very affordable.
Bonk's Revenge: -MORE fun, it looks better, and not to expensive.
Bonk 3: Bonk's Big Adventure: -came out on both cartridge and CD. Both formats are prohibitively expensive ($100 would be very lucky). The PC Engine version, only released on cartridge, is more affordable.
Air Zonk: -great shoot 'em up. Affordable, but not cheap. $30-50 range usually I think. It would be a must-have if it was under $20.
Super Air Zonk: -on CD. Good, but not as good as Air Zonk.

Get Bonk's Adventure, Bonk's Revenge and Air Zonk eventually. Bonk1 is pretty cheap, so get that first.

The Japanese version of Air Zonk, PC Denjin, is a bit more affordable and is just as fun, frankly. It being a shooter and all, language isn't all that important.

I'm actually not a big Bonk fan. Image

But there are plenty of other unmentioned TG-16 games I still want like Super Star Soldier, Dragon Spirit, Legendary Axe, Sidearms, and others.

Oh well. I'm not a fan of some favorites out there either.
Definitely get Super Star Soldier though. :D

Dragon Spirit, Legendary Axe and Side Arms should all be around the $10-20 range if you look around enough (with case/manual) and are all really good. Super Star Soldier will be a bit more.

As for the JP version of Air Zonk (PC Denjin), that isn't really an option for Burningdoom unless he region mods his unit or buys a PC Engine or converter cart (which is like 3-5X the price of a white PCE unit). That's why I didn't mention it. The prices between the two should be similar anyway; both in the $30-50 range I think. The only downside of the US version of Air Zonk is that it never came with a jewelcase (none of the later TG releases did). So you will most likely have to suffer getting it loose, unless you want to pay a bunch more for the cardboard box.
