Every thread I post in has to do with TG-16/PC Engine games. If it didn't already talk about it, then I help the thread in the correct direction. Fortunately, Noiseredux already lead it there when he typed in the word "shmups."

I have the Sapphire bootleg. Still need to print some nice artwork for it.
Talk to Sparky at PCEngineFX.com.

He does very good work:

^that's really nice art. But please, let's keep this Dreamcast thread Dreamcast-related :P

@CDAGES: Yeah, I wasn't seriously planning to play with a guide. But I was interested in picking one up if there was a Dreamcast-branded one. There's a lot of DC guides that I am interested in for specific reasons... like how I grabbed the Half-Life one because it's kind of awesome that a guide was made even though the game never officially came out. Obviously guides for the few RPG's would be cool and I'm always a fan of fighting game guides just for the move-lists.

It is rumored there are some half-life initial prints out there (as in factory pressed).

Same goes for Propeller Arena.

I've only ever owned a burns of those, would be neat to track down "proto-types".

But the DC doesn't have a slot to play HuCards in? It's the one feature that Sega forgot...

On a more DC related not, one of my friends here just got the CPS2 board for Giga Wing in. Really nice. I own the DC version, and it's great to see that there were really no differences that I noticed other than loading times on the DC.

My only DC shoot 'em ups I own are the same ones you reviewed; Giga Wing and Gunbird 2. Have you given Mars Matrix a try yet?

No, it does not exist...

I contacted Gearbox about the matter a few years ago...
Hello,

A while ago I sent you guys a few questions regarding the Dreamcast version of Half-Life. Unfortunately I never got a reply. I mean, what's the use of a contact button, if noone bothers answering?...

Anyways, I got that refund, since the USPS never got a package with that specific barcode on the dispatch note. But that doesn't mean I'm not interested in knowing the real deal about the DC version. I know there's a DC promo whitelabel with a movie clip on it. But I wonder if any full game discs were ever pressed, Pal or Ntsc. Any information regarding previous Dreamcast projects you had would be appreciated. Pretty please?...

Regards,

Chris
Hi Chris -

No full game discs were ever pressed for Half-Life on Dreamcast.

I just paid for my copy yesterday oddly enough!

@elmagicochris: funny enough when mj mentioned the Half-Life "promo" rumor, I was immediately reminded of the thread on Dreamcast-Talk where you had mentioned the exchange with Gearbox prior.

As far as Propellor Arena goes, the only thing I remember seeing "official" was a GD-ROM that said "Propellor Arena" on it in sharpee and was apparently defective as it wouldn't load even when tried on a DC dev kit. Though my memory on the topic is fuzzy as it was about a year ago that I was reading about this.

Half Life is good, but the constant loads will drive you nuts. I hate it when I went the wrong way and wait for a long load, turn around and wait for another long load. Still playable though and it contains Blue Shift.

When I saw the plane on the Dreamcast cover of Giga Wing 2 I thought it was Propellar Arena. Ended up downloading it, really a great game. Silly Sega for pulling it, the buildings cannot be damaged.

And this is why the DC is such a force still today. You are right, both Giga Wing and MM play near flawless on DC. Those are both CPS2 hardware, but even up against the NAOMI hardware, the DC console still held up.

The only experiences noticeably better on NAOMI than Dreamcast were Zombie Revenge and TriZeal.

But Trizeal is best on the 360 anyways.

The Mars Matrix port is actually superior to the arcade version, since they fixed the counterstop that makes the 2nd half of the game pointless score-wise.

Pc Engine shmups are over-rated.

Noise, have you checked out Last Hope. Imo its the most under-rated shooter on the dc.

I do have Last Hope (original, not Pink Bullets) but I've probably only played it for like 5 mins to make sure it worked. I really haven't put any time into it yet. I'm surprised to hear such high praise though. I don't feel like I've ever heard overly positive things said about it. My first impression was that it was pretty similar to Dux which isn't much to write home about. Though again, that was a very very brief first impression.
