I decided to give this a run tonight. This is my first go-around.

Not really sure as to what is going on yet, other than when you hold the shot close to enemies, you lock-on with a secondary weapon?

I definitely get into this; very cut-throat. Is the 360 port region-free?

Dammit. Are there enough good JP games for 360 to justify a purchase?

Depends who you ask. I say no.

I often forget what is in fact region locked.

Dunpeal or ZenErik would know for sure.

IIRC: Ketsui and DDP DOJ are the big 2.

Eschatos / Bullet Soul / Otemedius Gorgeous - may or may not be JP only.

There are a few other fringe shmups / rail shooters and such that some JP collectors enjoy, but knowing your tastes, wouldn't really be up your alley.

Ketsui, DOJ, Mushihimesama HD, and now SDOJ.

However, Ketsui runs just as good in MAME, and DOJ even better imo.

So, worth it for 2 games? Could be. I want SDOJ, so ill be jtagging my box.

Mushihimesama HD is essentially the PS2 port, but in HD, yeah? And completely independent of Mushi Futari?

SDOJ has been released physically already? Or it's coming...?

PS2 port is missing half the slowdown, has a nasty filter, and has no dlc to unlock matsuri mode. Its much much better than the ps2 port.

SDOJ is the newest Dodonpachi, just came out in arcades this year. The only way to play it atm is to buy the $2800 pcb. It was announced for the 360 in japan next spring.

So, both are well worth having. Honestly, mushi works better in mame than on the ps2... and its still completely inaccurate in mame.

Eschatos and Bullet Soul are region free.

Oh, and Mushi is the first game in the series, released just after Galuda, and the first game on their new sh3 hardware. Futari is the sequel.

Well, as far as Cave goes, the DDP iterations have proven to be my favorites so far. I only asked about Ketsui because for some odd reason it doesn't run very well on my computer, and it definitely seems worthwhile.

Now hearing the news of a new DoDonPachi, I'm on the fence,

Don't jump the gun and buy a j360 yet man, the game in't coming out until spring next year, and could get localized.

I know its hard to wait and not get every Cave game you see, but it kinda sells the games short when only a small amount of good play time is put into one before you jump to another, at least thats how I see it.

And I only say this because I've done the buying every shooter thing, and at one point you realize that buying them really means nothing, because they aren't like most video games in that you can experience everything they have to offer within a few weeks, or a month even.

Plus, having played that new DDP first-hand, I can honestly say the game is fucking hard. Not DFK scoring-is-hard kinda hard, but kill you with brutal patterns that require lightning fast relexes hard. The game makes Ketsui look easy.

If you want to get really serious, lets learn DDP chaining. The original game is extremely well-balanced, and there is nothing more satisfying than an all-or-nothing scoring system (at least, when you finally succeed). I've never even looped the game before, but I sure would love to.

Sorry, I don't mean to be a negative nancy, but I always try to encourage playing shmups over collecting them. Not to say you don't play them,as everyone here knows you are quite the shmup beast already, but your skills will skyrocket if you keep pushing at the games you already know you enjoy.

I hear ya, man. I still gotta get a copy of DDP; I have DonPachi, but not the 2nd.

Put another try into this; starting to get the idea of how to score.
