Good games to play with the wife?

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

My wife loves Katamari Damacy. You can trade off levels, or on the second one for PS2 I think there's a co-op mode where each person controls one of the sticks. Mario Kart and puzzlers like Dr. Mario and Tetris are great suggestions, too.

Thanks for all the good suggestions guys. By the way, does anyone know if Lego Star Wars OT can be played completely in co-op? Also, you think it would be too difficult for a casual player?

I asked my nine year olds about this one. They say you can play the entire game co-op and it wouldn't be difficult for a casual player. "In fact it's kind of easy."

Flashman, your lady likes to play Contra? Nice.

Well, the 'casual' ladies seem to like their beat 'em ups - probably because they are easy, and they get to hit things. Hard. They like that.

I think your wife should like ToeJam & Earl II. Every non-game player seems to like that game.

Otherwise, in my experience, the top choice in my library which non-game players tend to go for is Mega Bomberman - and the kids love it too, so the whole family should enjoy it.

I play Lego SW with my 6 year old cousin. It is actually quite fun and pretty simple. It's good, though. Recommended.

My experience with playing video games with my fiance is interesting. About a year ago, when we were both 21, I tried to introduce her to video games. My mother had an NES before I was even born, and she introduced me to video games when I was 3. My girlfriend was playing for the first time. After thinking long and hard, I concluded that the best introductory game, in terms of difficulty, learning curve, overall quality, and overall sweetness (sega is okay, but all you fanboys are crazy), I chose Super Mario World. She played for about an hour and a half, and I can honestly say that she was by far the worst video game player I have ever seen, and gained no ability in the 90 minutes she played for. About 2 months ago I tried again, after much convincing. This time we played Ms. Pac-Man with me, a personal favorite. She was less negative about playing this, but she still hated it and had a very hard time even comprehending a game that merely involved controlling the direction of the character.

But about a week and a half ago, I got her to play a classic game with me - Final Fight on MAME. She absolutely loved it. She plays as the mayor character, and just really finds the whole game entertaining. It is great that having a very anti-game girlfriend that I have slowly turned her on to video games. I know that once she plays some later beatemups, and hopefully other games, she will come to appreciate the "finer qualities" of gaming.

My woman recently played Earthbound for about an hour and loved it. She's never played an RPG in her life. I'm curious to see if she goes back to it.

If you have a Genesis, there is a game called Wiz and Liz that my wife enjoys. It's a little on the silly side, but it's fast paced and it keeps us laughing. What my wife likes about it is that the game usually doesn't have enemies that can kill her. It's basically a race against the clock.
