Jojo's Bizarre Adventure in VGA land

Post by pierrot »

I was playing this on the Dreamcast a while ago and was disheartened by the lack of VGA support for it. (I still tried to get some enjoyment out of playing it squashed up into the top half of the screen, though.)
Then, recently, I had an epiphany and decided to check into whether or not Capcom added VGA support to the 'for Matching Service' release. In doing so I came to the realization that the US release says it's compatible with the VGA cord. As I have a VGA box and not a VGA cord I can't test it myself. So is anyone aware of whether or not it actually does support the VGA cord?
Anyway, it turns out that the 'for Matching Service' release also says that it's VGA compatible, but makes no mention of whether it's VGA box or VGA cord compatible.
Basically, I'm wondering if I need to buy the VGA cord or the 'for Matching Service' version; or just get the XBLA release and be done with it. I'd much rather play it in glorious 480p on my dreamcast, though.

You sir are crazy

In all seriousness, The FMS version is indeed VGA Compatible. What's even better is that the wonderful crew over at Revive DC recently got a hold of the GD disc and and for the first time ever has been released for everyone to enjoy this rare game so players can play it the way it was meant to be played (on VGA).

I was fortunate enough to get early access to provide an extensive review. Check it out, I'm sure all your questions and concerns regarding the VGA debacle with be answered!

Well, that cinches it then. I guess I need the Matching Service version.
Thanks for the heads-up.
It's too bad I didn't pick it up In Japan while I had the chance, but most places charge an arm and a leg for it.
Also, very annoying that Capcom listed the VGA adapter as compatible on the US release.

Please disregard this misconception for now on. If it works (or doesn't) for one, it always applies to the other. While I understand some games label VGA compatability with different name conventions (Box, Cord and maybe even Cable) but its really all the same shit.

Yes! Yes it is. To my knowledge, its the only US DC game that isn't VGA compatible even though the pakaging says otherwise. I guess when box art packaging and Capcom are concerned, Somethings never change :?

uh, is there a difference as to whether you're using a VGA box or "cord"?

Technically there are some products out there for VGA out that are better described as "cord" than "box," but I guess in actuality, there's little difference in results to your TV screen.

When outputting games thru VGA, there is none. The box just gives the consumer versatility in additional output connections (AV, SVid).
