I've had no problem with Legend of Dragoon's pace. It's kept me interested the whole time. I think I actually enjoyed the first two discs more than the third, maybe because that's when you find most of the dragoon spirits.
The only "problem" I find with the addition system is that you have to do it. It isn't optional. If you mess up the timing, you deal about 1/4 the normal damage. In a boss battle, a few mistakes can be the difference between a win and a wipe.
The non-party character models are pretty basic. The party's character models are a little better. The background renders and animation are some of the best I have ever seen in a PlayStation game. The spell and dragoon effects and animations are also cool.
What RPG are you playing right now?

Roughly 12 hours into Xenogears. First playthrough. Is this game popular around these parts?

Story/character wise it's up there with Suikoden II for me, JRPG wise. God tier.

Ys: The Oath in Felghana - currently exploring the Elderm Mountains. It's my first Ys game and I'm really liking it.
Final Fantasy IX - currently at the Iifa tree. It's my first time playing this. Currently at just over 50 hours.

I am also playing Oath in Felghana and like you it is my first Ys game. I really like the battle system in it and the bosses are really kicking my ass

I haven't played an RPG in a while, but got the urge a couple days ago and started up Albert Odyssey.
Its definitely a straight-up traditional turn-based rpg, but I am having a lot of fun with it so far. When WD does a game right, it comes out fantastic. The dialog in this game is hilarious, and very well-written.
My first Saturn rpg, I've been getting curious to check out the non-shmup stuff for the system.
Interesting that this game was initially designed to be on the SFC (With tons of Mode-7, I'm sure, since the first two games seemed to use tons of it, and there are crazy layered backgrounds)

My copy of The Last Story arrived today and I am tempted to start that, but... I'm about 22hrs into Xenoblade Chronicles and haven't played it since May. I should start it back up before playing a new game, but I'm afraid I forgot how to play it.

Probably. I just got back to it after 2 months or so and picked it up pretty easily again, but I was much further and the last half of the game is more pure dungeon crawling in a sense, so it's more straightforward I guess.
But yeah I'm guessing around 80 hours when I complete it, and I'm honestly rushing a bit towards the end here. Didn't try to do everything and it still kept me busy for that long. I've heard The Last Story is pretty short on the other hand and like 20 hours long.
