Not to derail the thread, but I have noticed that some of the older Sega Genesis boxes - the ones with the grid in the background - have a nice "Sega Genesis" logo on the spine, while others have an ugly UPC code.
Does anyone know why some games have the logo and others have the UPC? Are there any games where one variant of the box has the logo and another variant has the UPC (i.e., would it be possible to acquire a copy of "Ecco the Dolphin" that has the logo on the spine and another copy of the same game with a UPC code on the spine)?

Re: Inconsistancies with SNES box layout
I think not only Genesis, but most older game system's games, and DVDs, CDs, etc also are like this. Not all but so many.
(FC, AVFC, NES, SFC x2, SNES, N64, GC x2, Wii x2)*(G&W x7, GB, GBpocket, GBASP, DS-L x2)
(GEN, SS x3, DC x3)*(PCE-Duo)*(Xbox:500GB)*(NGCDZ, NGPC)*(PS1, PStwo, PS3:160GB, PSP.3K)

Re: Inconsistancies with SNES box layout
I suppose it might be possible if a game was popular enough to get a reprint that occurred after the unifying style changed. For instance Contra HC and Castlevania Bloodlines both have hardcase and paper box releases. I'm pretty sure I've heard of some games that have color and B&W books from later reprints.prfsnl_gmr wrote:Not to derail the thread, but I have noticed that some of the older Sega Genesis boxes - the ones with the grid in the background - have a nice "Sega Genesis" logo on the spine, while others have an ugly UPC code.

Re: Inconsistancies with SNES box layout
Inconsistancies like these can also be found with (PAL) GBA boxes.
They are all different and some boxes have multiple spines while other have none.
It is impossible to get these organized :l
