You ARE familiar with the park.Gunstar Green wrote:For you and anybody else unfamiliar with Knoebels:brunoafh wrote:I plan on showing up around 1pm, give or take. Don't know my way around the park or anything but I should be able to locate the arcade area.
When you enter the park you'll have the rental center and the giant ferris wheel to your left. You're going to want to take a right to head deeper into the park. You'll go past the Galleon (pirate ship) and the Italian Trapeze (big spinny thing with swings dangling from it) from there you'll make a slight left.
Here you'll probably find some bathrooms, the old-fashioned bumper cars, and the band-shell amphitheater. From this area you should be able to spot Playland arcade and directly behind it is the XD Theater where the old arcade is located. We're apparently meeting between those two buildings. Hope this helps.

Even the torture of working there hasn't turned me off of the park. It's really an amazing place, especially if you have kids.
Dick Knoebel is a lovable grump and his brother Buddy is one of the nicest guys I've ever met. Though most of the supervisors in the park are jerks who think too much of their authority.
Working parking was really crappy because EVERYBODY hates you, especially when there's a huge traffic jam because everyone is trying to leave at once at the end of the day. You have to understand the method to their madness, they park you far out even if there's some empty spots up front because they're trying to establish rows throughout the field or else later in the day people can and will park however they want, trapping cars and causing all sorts of havoc.
For most of the day you're sitting in the heat, doing nothing, praying somebody has a dead battery or a flat tire or can't find their vehicle so you don't die of boredom. On the bright side that job taught me how to break into locked cars, a skill I had to use when I locked my own keys in my car.
I also drove the tram cars for two years, talk about the most mind numbing job in the world, going around in circles for 10+ hours behind the wheel of an overheating Jeep Commando with a '63 AMC Rambler engine that needs to have fluids constantly poured into it
.
Lost and Found was a lot better and more rewarding since we had to do some sleuth work to return stuff like wallets and phones to people and it was great to see them happily reunited with their lost stuff. Occasionally we had some angry and desperate people though and that was no fun.

Looks like I'll be going thanks to brunoafh. I have been there more than enough times to know my way around so there's no need to worry about getting lost in the place.

Everyone should bring whatever they have to trade, too...

Ok, the upstairs back room (game room) is set up with one TV for Sega consoles, one TV for the 360, and the MAME cab. I pulled out the games people had discussed and a few others I thought might be fun and tried to move the limited furniture around to make room for 5-6 people to fit comfortably in what is essentially a bedroom.
Downstairs I have the BC PS3 good to go with a bunch of games nearby and I will hook up an N64 and SNES to a little TV in that same room in case people are interested in playing Mario Kart or something.
I have a headcount of 5-7 people coming here in addition to the three that already live here, so we should hopefully have a nice little get together if all pans out.
See you soon!

It appears I won't be making this today.
Apparently my father has decided that he's replacing windows, and adding a 2nd bathroom to his house.
My brother, who is a lazy piece of crap, was supposed to assist him, but has backed out, so now I have to go in his place.
So instead of hanging out and getting to play retro games with people who enjoy them as much as I do; I'll be framing windows, and installing a toilet. Fuckin' hooray!
Sorry, guys. If there's another one of these, I'm not missing it for sure.

Oh no! Dude that sucks, I was looking forward to meeting you and shmupping it up a bit. If there's any chance you can just make it to part of the meet in late afternoon/evening, you should try to come anyway (I think that's what fvgazi is doing).foxhound1022 wrote:It appears I won't be making this today.

I am having my own problems this morning. I figured it might be a good day to finally install better hinges and a coin box in my cab, and I ended up fucking the door up in the process without adequate time to fix it. So bleh.

Any pics? The day is almost half way done and can't wait to see the festivities.
