Hello folks.
I'm looking to set up multiple consoles that use S-Video to a switch box. I've seen a few PS2/Gamecube/Xbox S-video cables on ebay, they look really cool. The only problem is that I've heard a fair number of those cables won't actually output in S-video, but in standard AV instead.
Have you guys used any of these? What's a good brand to look out for?
Would a PS2 S-video cable work in an original PlayStation?

The PS2 SVideo cable works fine in a PS1. The combo cables are a mixed bag, you need to verify all the connections. Its best to get a dedicated separate cable for each console and utilize a switch box or two. SVideo pins are fragile, best to plug in just one time.RetroGamerTMD wrote:Hello folks.

Re: PS2/ Gamecube/ Xbox svideo cables?
All of my off brand cables were purchased a while back and I don't remember what brands they are, just that the ones I have are fine. Monster are big jerks, but their cables can be nice... if you don't overpay for them. I have the Playstation 1/2 and SNES/N64/GC Svideo cables and they're excellent, if tight on the TV ends of the plugs. If you can find some of those used and reasonable they'd be good. And yes, PS1 and 2 cables are all interchangeable except that PS1 doesn't do component.

The silver MadCatz PS2/GC/XBOX cable is really good. I got it sealed for $6 a while back, you should be able to find one easily. There's a noticeable improvement in color and less video artifacts on both PlayStation and Nintendo consoles. I don't have an XBOX but I assume it's the same. It's very convenient for me, I have the one cable connected to the back of my TV and I can plug it into any console when I want to play. Audio quality was improved too, those official Playstation cables aren't very well built.
MadCatz has packaged a lot of mediocre products, but this cable is solid.

I have one of those gray/silver multi-system cables. I use it for my Playstation and SNES for S-Video. The multi-cables work great for older systems but they can be trouble for newer systems like the Wii and PS2 which have a standby mode, because if more than one system is getting power nothing will display.
Monoprice has some cheap multi-system cables and they are nice, thick cables. Sturdier looking than the MadKatz ones and cheaper.

Cheaper than $6? That's something. I've only had my cable connected to one console at a time. It would be pretty difficult to connect it to several at once unless you stack an xbox, slim ps2 and gamecube all on top of each other

The advantage of the S-video multi-console cable is that you can connect a SNES (via S-video no less) and a PS1 at the same time, and since neither have a standby mode they just work. You can connect a SNES and a PS2 or a GC and PS2 at the same time, but the PS2 has to be switched off in the back to use the other system.
I wouldn't recommend trying to connect 3 systems at the same time, but 2 is pretty doable.
