Innovation GBA Halo Light

Post by jay_red »

Hey guys, just stumbled across this and wondered if anyone here had any experience with it?

The one pic they have of the screen is crappy, but from what I read it seems to be pretty good. Lets spare any discussion of getting an SP and how it is superior, I just want to know about this product.

I've been considering the Halo Light as well. The only thing I don't like about it is the external connection. I was considering getting one and modifying it to connect internally, so the only outward change in appearance would be the new lens.

Anyways, I've read decent reviews on it as well. And I've seen it in a few videos, it looks like it lights the screen up well. I plan to get one when I have the extra cash (it's not a high priority for me right now). Definitely post back if you get one, I'd very much like to hear your results with it.

It works similarly, maybe not quite as well, as the original GBA SP's lighting.

If you like the look and feel of the original GBA it's not a terrible solution.

I wouldn't recommend it if it's similar to the Ninja light I had. The lens is thicker than the original, so you will see less of the screen due to the elevation in height. It's also much less brighter than a afterburner mod. Then there's the reflection, and trapezoid effect. It'll do in a pinch but that recent update with swapping the SP screen into GBA with a ribbon change and some soldering might still be a better alternative.

I actually am waiting on that cable to come in the mail so I can do that mod, but I came across this for another gba I have. I am considering this since the gba sp mod is pretty pricey when you factor in the cost of an sp, plus the cable and shipping from china.

There is also the front light method from the first model sp, which I successfully did on my ngpc, but botched on my gba. The reflective lense is so fragile the slightest touch of it will ruin it, so this attachment may be a better Alternative.

This attachment is by far the cheapest (unless you happen to snag a front lit sp for super cheap to gut for its parts) and the easiest to install (no opening of the console, no soldering, reversable if desired) But obviously you may not get the same results as the other methods.

That is pretty cool but I think the external connection and cheap thicker looking cover kind of makes me shy away. Plus it more then what I paid for my GBA.

I'm really surprised no one has put together a light kit for the original GBA. Buying a GBASP to butcher it seems like over kill. Really, my worm light works pretty well.

Well there used to be the Afterburner kit.

I had an Afterburner equipped GBA and I thought it worked great. I know people say it washes out the screen but it really wasn't bad at all.

I wish there was still a kit available, I think there is still a market for it. Many people prefer the original GBA over all the others in terms of form factor. I feel that the SP is a little uncomfortable, the Micro is ok, but the small screen and high price make it not the best option. The original got everything right but the screen IMO.
